And the biggest kicker was I was stopped in the left-hand turn lane on a 6 Lane Street, and some strange reason there was a little kitty in the center divider that just so happen out of all the cars, to go under my car and hide under my tire while I was waiting for the light to turn. The lady from the car behind me saw it all and knocked on my window so that I could get it out before I drove off. so there I was crouching on the straight with my head under my car trying to get this little kitty out LOL. "you attract broken people" this is the biggest barrier I believe we all face. We try so hard to help fix them, in the meantime hurting our selves. Many of us faced this in relationships as well, causing us to become distant. And in some rare cases breaking down and doing/saying things we normally wouldn't. Due to taking on their pain.

So true, this just happened to me. I really felt like I lost myself, I could see all the wrong in the relationship and I ignored EVERY SIGN because I loved her and thought I could fix her. I just ended up breaking myself in the process, now taking a long sabbatical......

Top three mistakes: 1) Thinking that anyone, including yourself, is “broken”. Human beings are not “broken”...PERIOD. People are only broken when they actually break something in their bodies. That’s it. Anything else is our ego putting us in situations we most likely shouldn’t even be in. 2) Thinking YOU can fix anyone. PSSST...Hey Superman, what if I told you there’s no difference between you & the person you’re trying to fix? 🤔 What if I reminded you that ALL humans beings are animals AND we’re the ASSHOLE species of the animal kingdom?! 🤨 So you thinking you can “fix” anyone makes you top asshole. 🤯#THEHORROR Seriously, do yourself a huge favor & read #1 to yourself over & over & over & over. By doing this you get the opportunity to see yourself & others big & highly capable assholes vs small, helpless, and “broken” assholes. 3) Actually trying to “fix” people. STOP DOING THAT! Life isn’t HGTV with other people as your personal “fixer upper” project so stop fixing! It’s exhausting for everyone, annoying as hell, and it’s quite obvious what you’re doing. Go back & read #1 & 2 over and over and over and over until you get that no one is “broken” or “needs to be fixed”. We’re just different assholes navigating life

When I was little, I had a hard time figuring out whose feelings were mine or someone else’s. Once I figured that out, I was able to build the boundaries I needed. It also helps to realize that there are lots of people who are pretty much incapable of empathy. It took me a long time to realize that people weren't necessarily purposefully being cold hearted assholes towards others, they actually lack the ability to "put themselves in the other ones shoes" somehow they aren't able to refer their own experiences and understand how the other person is likely feeling. They have no clue! It seems crazy or impossible to me because for me it has always been automatic that once I pick up how they are feeling I immediately draw from my own life to better understand how I can help them. For a long time I couldn't fathom how people mostly jump to judgement rather than having any understanding or empathy. I'm so stoked right now to realize that I just found others like me!! People that I can talk to. Wow! Awesome! Much Love to you all!❤️

As an empath I'd actually say we feel so (much more) comfortable with animals is because they don't lie, they're 100% authentic and most of all they won't judge you, look down on you or 'hide' things from you like human beings can do. And we can easily 'take on' energy from other people - their emotions, state of being - even the energy we certainly don't wánt in our system, and animals' inner world/mind doesn't work like ours do, so you won't have to fear feeling energetically drained after petting a doggie for example lol :)

@azeroina M it's strange because there are many aspects of being an empath that can get twisted and then one thinks they are being the narcissists - "fixing" is a common word the narcissists feels one is trying to do or "change them", when imo it''s and I'm being simplistic here, empaths don't get the narcissists and vice versa, as it was stated in the video and videos on narcissism we're drawn to one another, (usually subconsciously ) and yeah, it's brutal and as weird as it sounds and I think it would depend on the depth etc of the individuals - it's mentally brutal for both, a vicious cycle. Hope your in your self-caring place and know this is your nature that needs self- care and paying close attention to ward off going down that over helping path. 💖

I would go somewhere and someone would say oh be careful, Fido doesn’t like strangers, especially men. Yet I’d walk up to dog or the dog would come to me and an instant bond to where it shocks the owners. It happen yesterday as a matter of fact. At a house and next thing I know there’s a small dog with both of its front paws on my thighs and I looked down and the owner said “wow she doesn’t like anybody and definitely doesn’t do that right there, and she’s never even met you, that’s very interesting!”….I’ll even go to aquariums and swear that there will be 30 people in front of these tanks and i will always catch the eye of a fish who is fixated on me and comes up to the glass. And to make sure I’m not crazy, I walk back and forth and if follows me. And I because I’m an engineer I want to rule out variables and have my girlfriend trade places, and ill watch her or watch the rest of the people to see if any fish have taken notice. Yup. At 80 I have gradually moved myself to more and more secluded homes, not really understanding why until now. My life has been a succession of helping one person after another...some relatives, some strangers. I have come to call them "God's Projects" because of the way they have presented in quite an orderly manner. I have often commented that I don't tend to large numbers of people as some are able to do...I help one person at a time. I know some think I'm just a "people pleaser" (the term seems very critical and disparaging to me)...but in a way, perhaps they're correct. If those around me are feeling good, I derive much peace from that. I have found it interesting that those who label "people pleaser", eventually become one of "God's Projects", needing support. At my age, I have become weary. I have accepted that my physical ability to help is diminished greatly and now, through isolation, protect myself from having to refuse to help those in need. If I could have changed my empathy for others, would I? No. I've always felt that it was my purpose for being, and now understand THAT was correct. No regrets. Take care.

When I was in my teenage years I started putting up walls like crazy as I was overwhelmed and so hurt when people would try and play me not realizing that I knew the truth of what they were thinking and feeling and it didn't match what they were saying or trying to portrey. I didn't have any idea how to process these emotions so I built walls bigger and thicker as the years went by. So I guess, I just want to advise that you be careful when building walls. In the long run they can do more harm than good. Maybe build just a shield as not to let other people's emotions Pentwater you. Ground yourself so that you notice others emotions but they don't interact your own balance. Personally it has taken me a whole bunch of years to find any semblance of balance. Ironically, my birth sign is Libra yet most of my life I have struggled with balance. Anyway, I hope you can figure out a good balance! One good thing about these days is the fact there's much information at your fingertips and lots of people to talk with about it. ❤️

@@stevengoracke7644 Thank you for your kind remark. From my childhood, I have tended to be a "loner", standing back and quietly observing rather than jumping into "herd" behavior. I recognized that I was different but respected that difference and felt no need to blend-in. Because I am learning about being an empath, I now understand that I must have intuitively trusted my observations and instincts from a very young age. And, yes, I too felt that others thought I was unfriendly, ("a snob") as my brother once overheard being said about me. What they saw as "snobbish" or aloofness was actually my pervasive serious, quiet side...I have always had a very active sense of humor if I'm comfortable with present company. My readiness to help those in need has more often than not put me into situations where I have been "used", but I bear no ill will toward those who have exited our friendship when they were recovered from their trauma. I merely think of it as a fledgling leaving the nest. Simply ready; saddened by the loss of a friend, but satisfied that I was able to help. Understanding that is very freeing. @@marlabaldwin7844 I didn't put up walls until recently when my physical inability to help others required it. I can see discovering walls as a protective mechanism early in "the game" could be very overwhelming to a younger person. I think one way I learned to avoid the complete "walling-off" for so long was that I allowed the person-in-need to find ME, and not actively look beyond my space for new "projects" nor rushing-to-rescue prematurely. My focus was on getting that person standing on his/her own and, without realizing it, throwing up walls to others at that point, thus controlling the incoming "vibes". You are correct. Balance seems to be the answer to preventing this whole situation from taking over our lives. Without sites such as this, I had no clue what was "driving me. Keep on keepin' on, Marla. Well I’m 67 yrs old and you’ve pretty accurately described my life. My understanding of what I am and how I differ from others started in my early thirties. The first book I read that helped was titled “Are you too Sensitive”, That’s when I began to understand that I was experiencing the feelings of others and needed to learn how to differentiate between these and my own. One more piece of information that I would pass on is that I’ve learned that just because you can sense a discrepancy between someone’s emotions and energy, and what they say or their actions, doesn’t mean you know anymore than just that. Never rush to judgement. That’s where discernment and wisdom come in and even then we can make mistakes. Glad you are all out there❤

yes thanks for that advice. Still we need to find a room for understanding and knowing what's ours and what is not is a great relief after all. Recently I have just learned this myself. After rehearsing a choir piece where I was pretty confident and suddenly in the last practice with my group, a person who was also performing but in a different group came to hang around our rehearsal and suddenly while I am singing a part I know so well, my chest start to flutter and my voice begins to weaken and skake and I am puzzled as to why this is happening and then I turn around and see him there, and I knew in that instant I have this capacity to feel other peoples feeling and I was able to bring it back to myself. Now I am learning to shield it, specially when I have to perform in groups because if anyone in my group will have a strong emotional reaction, I will sense it. Being in groups doing this is something new for me, so I am looking forward to understading this better.

I'm like that. All the time. My life is a Final Destination movie but with happy endings most of the time. I'm a suicide attempt survivor. Since my two attempts, I saved three people from killing themselves : one kid, one woman in a bridge and one female coworker who was depressed and I had an omen she would do that days before she attempted. I also saved a friend from an abusive relationship. I sometimes give euro bills to homeless people and talk to some. One day, I gave 40 bucks out of the blue to one of them. Another time, I hugged a woman who got into a hotel after escaping from her cheating and abusive husband and offered her coffee and advice. Ever since, my empathy increased to an extent where I feel something's not right before anyone tells me. I notice EVERY GODDAMN THING. And it causes me serious breakdowns at times but I'm also happy to be someone's rock in a time of need. Everyone around me knows that. They appreciate my wisdom and my ability to care. But there are times where it crushes me and breaks my heart. I'm barely 30 and my overextended heart, overthinking mind and overwrought high sensitivity cause me trouble due to my depression, ADHD and PTSD but it's also a precious gift I use to change the path of anyone I met and will meet. I want to work m'y time to be valuable to me and everyone around me. If I can be remembered for something in this lifetime, it would be for my heart.

I am now, seeing a Parapsychologist, who is helping learn how to build a "bubble" around me so that I don't feel so much and absorb so many energies and emotions of others. I literally feel a patient die as he/she is dying, and I can feel others grief, as it is my own. I avoid people as much as possible. But being an ER/ICU/Trauma Nurse makes avoiding kind of difficult. Trees and plants talk to me....I can feel them and what they want to convey and need. Animals, wow....I know what they want, need, are thinking. And global events are suffocating, thus, I avoid TV. So....I understand how you feel. And the closer I am to the Lord Jesus Christ and God, the stronger this gift of the Holy Spirit becomes. It is the "gift of Discernment". And God's Word says that He will pour out His spirit upon the Earth, in the last days, where young men/women will dreams, and old men will see visions of prophesy. This is so true. I've come to realize, I affect and move on. I love being alone but since I'm used to being needed and find all friendships or socialization in solving others problems etc, when I'm not in that role I can feel guilty, sorry for myself and unloved. At 59 I'm understanding myself, accepting myself and helping others to understand that I am very conscious of what I'm doing. I do have a strong spine, I maintain personal power when others take advantage. I am unable to go against my own principles, and won't give up my will to anyone except by force....I also read physical pain levels and know when I need to weed out certain influences from my life.

Everyone can feel empathy but not all people are empathy. On second thought I believe some people are incapable of feeling empathy. Being an empath, I cannot not feel/ sense the emotional state of another. I understand the confusion mentioned when I become enmeshed in another's feelings. I have to be able. I must transition between many different emotional scenarios. Shield up, golden mesh gauntlet over me, sever the energetic cords, surrounding myself in white or pale pink light, walking away are all helpful ways to protect yourself. I MUST periodically chill alone. I often clean or stay busy....needing to burn off negative stores of energy, and for a few minute have a feeling of being in control of my environment and separate Sandra from the other selves I am constantly bombarded with.

Erika: My mother had a very strong narcissistic personality disorder, never diagnosed or addressed by a psychiatrist, because she would never see one more than once! She was also homosexual (I was not), and had a nasty obsessive compulsive disorder problem, undiagnosed, except by me. She was very abusive in every way, including sexually. I had a complete mental breakdown as a child, recovered, but developed clinical depression as an adult, enhanced by my constant fear of my mother for my whole life, even after leaving home. She passed away at age 94, a long time for evil to “rule your life” any way possible. I was happy when I would no longer be influenced by negative evil. I’m okay now with my medications and therapy and unconditional love from my precious kitty, Mitzi.
