This is my Dad. And there's no excuses. I would ask him what was wrong with the car, but unfortunately he passed away on October of last year from Pancreatic Cancer. This car was his baby. We all signed the hood of it during his Celebration of Life. This is the only video I have that I can hear my Dad's voice and remember him. Thank you for your comment.

I just watched this and thought it was cool as hell. Big power sometimes does erratic things. Anyone who has been to a drag strip has seen a race car burn the plugs at the start line or get sideways on a burnout. I lost my Dad in 2012 to prostate cancer. I would have given a lot to share an experience like this with him. I just happened on your video. What a cool memory. My condolences.

For all those "not 1300" comments. Notice the 6-72 or W510 sitting under those carburators? On a mild BBC that thing only needs to turn around 10-14psi to kick out 1300hp (hell, with a good setup 7psi or less will get you 1k+). Those tiny air cleaners don't provide enough restriction to even come close to preventing the blower from making that amount of boost. It's not efficient, but it is totally doable.

We never got shut down in 2 years of racing every Friday and Saturday night and raced all challengers no matter what size motor they had or what carb combo. We just ran one 650 Dual Feed Double Pumper and 11:1 TRW pistons, our cam was rated mostly strip, little street about 8000 was max hp produced. Todays factory 'hot rod' cars I see seem a bit slow to me, but what do I know.

If you say so. I've only been professionally drag racing and building race engines since 1969 so who am I to doubt it. It's very easy to claim 1300hp much,much harder to build a motor that honestly has 1300hp on a dyno. I've dynoed these kind of motors where the owner claims this kind of power figures. 90% of the time they are in for a very big disappointment when they see the honest dyno numbers. But, you just keep on believing what you wish. If you listen even the gentleman that owns it says the motor is having problems. It is a very nice car.

fmxbenburnett -- That's OK. You're fine. It's just that I see so many people who aren't familiar with what it takes to build a true high horse power motor that believe these stories. If you truly want to learn and see real 1000 plus horespower motors go to the race track watch and learn. Ask questions but not to many as most racers don't have time to just sit and answer questions. This car in the video is very nice but it is not any where close to being a competitive strip car. It's a good fun car with decent power for the street. Never be ashame to admit you don't know things. When a person can admit that and is willing to listen they will learn the most in the long run.

Not 1300 horsepower it would need power adders for that. Not to mention you have to spend about 30 grand to make that out of a big block chevy and have it still be reliable. I would say 500-700 hp for this motor.

it's not hard to remove air filters. and typically drag cars run without filters both because the power loss and the fact serious professionals rebuild often to maintain power so dirt has little effect on a few hours of run time. However if you take a drag car for a spin around the town and intend to keep doing so then your damn right your throwing an airfilter on it even if that airfilter is tiny. And clearly most of you have never seen the filters on the likes of a old mechanical fuel injection stingray, or the tiny ones that came on a tri power. Theres an old stingray locally that used to run 8-9s on the 1/4. He now runs airfilters and swapped the pulleys on the charger to underdrive it so its streetable. The size of the blower is not as important as the drive ratio of it. Theres no replacement for displacment but a v8 at 4k rpm will make similar horse power to an i4 at 8krpm assuming the 4 is half the size of the 8. And a 16v71 blower at 2000 rpm will flow just a hair more than an 8v71 blower at 4000 rpm due to volumetric efficiency.
@47485ksc

Not any of these "KZitem Expert" kids even know that these "GMC" blowers did nothing but blow spent exhaust gasses out and fresh air in on Detroit Diesel two stroke engines. Now they know, They should have known.
@herpnderpn2484
8 жыл бұрын
Common sense is not so common. Apparently knowledge is uncommon as well. I once had a guy tell me that a Detroit didnt need a supercharger to run and only needed a turbo. Instead of spending 30 minutes explaining the fundamentals of scavenging on a 2 stroke I let him have it. Few know Rolls Royce played with 2 strokes a bit as well.
@47485ksc
8 жыл бұрын
"Are these the same half-wits who tell me: "A turbo is NOT a 'supercharger!'"? I tried telling them, a turbo is the bastardized form of "turbosupercharger" to no avail. They tell me a "supercharger is belt-driven." I tell them a supercharger can be gear, belt, direct crankshaft OR exhaust driven. They think I'm nuts. What do I know being a master mechanic of 42 years and worked on heavy equipment for almost 1/3d of those years (John Deere Industrial) The guy in the above video, obviously living in the Mojave Desert, knows a thing or two about running air filters in an environment of blowing dirt and sand.

+Yamaha SR650 I can't claim 42 years but I have been around heavy equiptment since I was 12. Trains, planes, boats, cars, trucks.... and most recently tanks. Ive never worked on something that goes into space or goes underwater.
@47485ksc
8 жыл бұрын
Oh, I've worked on some things that went underwater. One was a John Deere 450C dozer that was rented by some people to pull their kid's new Jeep CJ out of the incoming tide on an Oxnard, California beach. They got the dozer stuck somehow and it went" underwater". Salt water fucked it ALL up! Their Jeep was never found. Then, my 1968 International 1200 4X4 went almost underwater in a pond. After I got it out, I opened the glove box and my registration "poured" out. Do those count as "under water"?

First, sorry to hear about your dad, sounds like ya'll had a good relationship. The "getting out of control" deal is what happens when you panic and let off of the gas while in a sideways burnout. He should have held the gas down and turned into the skid. But looks like he was just caught off guard.
@davelowets
3 жыл бұрын
Umm, NO. That's horrible advice. One should ALWAYS lift when starting to lose it.... Staying IN the throttle is a recipe for disaster when losing control.
@StanWilhite
3 жыл бұрын
@@davelowets Umm, YES. Been driving hot rods for 55 years, letting completely off of the gas will be the worst thing to do. It changes the weight balance of the vehicle. Ok to lift a little, but not 100%.
@davelowets
3 жыл бұрын
@@StanWilhite I guess you've never had any 1000+ h.p. cars, and lost control on the drag strip at 100+mph. Not lifting, and trying to be a hero, is a SUREFIRE way to crash your car. NO exceptions, and NO excuses. Getting out of it when losing control, and letting the tires regrip is the SAFEST thing to do. The balance of the chassis has ALREADY been upset the instant the tires lose grip. NO amount of throttling it will bring it back. The only thing to do is lift, steer out of it, let the chassis re-plant it self, THEN roll back in the throttle. Period. ANY experienced drag racer will tell you the exact same thing I'm telling you. 55 years or not, you SHOULD know this.
@StanWilhite
3 жыл бұрын
@@davelowets The subject was about "doing a burnout", not doing 100+ mph. Notice the videos on YT, most of the loss of control (again, while doing a burnout) will be from an over correction while letting off of the gas at the same time.
@davelowets
3 жыл бұрын
@@StanWilhite That would be a steering issue then, not from lifting off the throttle. It's just asinine to say to someone, "Stay in the throttle when you lose control of your car". I don't care if it's a burn out at 20mph, or a 150mph+ pass down the drag strip, lifting during loss of control at any speed is the correct thing to do. Staying in the throttle at the point where you have lost control, beyond your ability, will only get you in worse trouble. End of story. I'm sure there is a Driver Ed class, or perhaps a Racing driving school where you are located. Perhaps you might want to attend one of them, and learn something, before you kill an innocent pedestrian someday because you think that keeping your foot in it will save you... Good luck. Edit: Also, driving a 1000+h.p. car is a WHOLE other game, than it is to drive a 300h.p. Hot Rod. Things happen REAL fast, and can quickly spiral WAY out of one's control. Lifting is your best friend when you get crossed up in a car like this.

You clearly don't know what you're talking about. That's a 10-71 blower with dual double pumper holley's. That engine is more than capable of 1000+hp on race gas. Even my 572ci would choke up on dual double pumpers.. The carbs alone are taking in 1400 cfm minimum..
