I stay in a beautiful apartment in Chiang Mai Gate and have the night Market near me every Saturday nights. Everything needed is close by and I go for long walks to Nimman Road and the golf course on the way to Mae Sai and the surrounding areas including Maya Mall. Try the Burmese restaurant off Nimman Road. Stunningly beautiful and tasty curries at very cheap prices! Chiang Mai Gate is a great location for a quiet life!

Nice find with this apartment. It looks clean, spacious, and simple. More importantly it's quiet when you are out in the balcony, unlike some videos I saw in VN where it's super noisy with motor bikes and honking. Thailand seems more developed than VN, but that could be they had more time to develop since they weren't at wars in the 20th century.

@@gregscott4368 HI Greg i have been working and playing in Thailand for over 15 years and i can tell you there are nice places to rent for $250- $300 even less if needed .. you can even rent a house for not much more.. So yes Thailand is Cheap and i am 100% surerents will decrease due to the cornona virus issue even once its over there economy will not bounce back quickly its heavily dependent on tourism.. so if you are trying to find out if Thialand is cheap the answer is yes ! but of course if you like you can spend much more.. there are many Americans living working and retiring on $1000.00 or less in Thailand and can still go out for casual diners of course that does not include having a car you would need use public transportation and all the bigger Beach cities and Bangkok have great and inexpensive transportation...i really dont like when people dont have true experience commenting on the cost of living abroad.. so i hope this long reply helps you if you are even giving it a passing thought..

@DanegerAndStacey

Visas are the problem. Thailand you can get 2 months paid, then pay to extend. Vietnam you can get 3 or maybe even up to 6 months in one go so is easier. Then you need to do a visa run

Hard to say really, closer to $600 maybe. We also have another video of our place in the same complex that was $500 and was fine. This building and location is pricier than most because of where it is and its new. You can spend $300 per month and get some where decent.

I did a quick calculation. Per square meter, it's 30% less expensive then renting my home, in a tech area (Reston, VA) south of Washington, D.C. In a U.S.city the size of Chiang Mai you'd expect rents to be lower. So is there a discount in renting, at least this apartment, in Chiang Mai,Thailand.
@DanegerAndStacey
5 жыл бұрын
Thats kind of crazy at 30% less. Even crazier, this is one of the most expensive rooms/complexes in Chiang Mai. Our last room was a but smaller, and was only $500 USD per month. Lots of people go there and only pay 250ish, but 500-700 a month gets you a lot nicer and newer set up

By the way the condo looks. It would easily be a $2,000 apartment in Manhattan.

For sure! Its expensive for CM, but still such a great spot!

zeelowb96 , I think more in Manhattan. $2000 would be for old ugly apartment. This is a new building with lobby, and reception.

Teddy Miukey, why compare? I get your point. But comparison is useful for people who may want to relocate. The USA is large and there are cheap places also, but probably people would prefer Thailand. I would live in Thailand over small town USA. Incidentally, American apartments are usually old fashioned in design. Modern apartments are expensive, especially in big cities.

Thanks! We'll be in Chiang Mai in a few days and I wonder if it's possible to rent this place for only one month. Do you know by any chance (and what would be the cost)?

Hi guys! I've been looking online for info about visas but can't find much. I'm a kiwi too - how do you stay in Thailand for more than 30 days?
@DanegerAndStacey
6 жыл бұрын
Hey Lena - theres articles everywhere online, they're relevant for any nation really, helped us with our planning as well. You can apply for a 60 day visa before you arrive, that can be extended while there for another 30 days giving you 90 in total. Or, go in on a free visa exempt for 30 days and then extend for another 30, giving you 60 in total.

What about the burning season, when pollution is so bad you have to leave the city?
@DanegerAndStacey
4 жыл бұрын
You can only really stay for 3 months at a time anyway. Definitely wouldn't be there during burning season though, we were there for the start of it and it was pretty bad.

It’s common and easy to rent month to month and even if just one month? That totally trumps a hotel! Or does it?
@DanegerAndStacey
5 жыл бұрын
One month is tricky to get these days, but 2 or 3 is more common and in terms of costs and effectiveness it trumps hotels majorly!

Daneger and Stacey what’s the easiest way to look for apartments locally? Any good websites? Craigslist?
@DanegerAndStacey

Locally is best - you can walk in the door and ask for long term accom
