What a ridiculous day indeed 🤣
As ever in the Citadel the sunlight is never where or when you want it, thus our arrival shots were somewhat abysmal!
Firstly Standard Class 7 70000 Britannia arrives with The Lakelander, assisted by Class 47 D1935 Rodger Hosking and pperated by Locomotives Services Group Limited and promoted by Saphos Steam. Then we Tangmere resume has resmumed her Northern Belle services with the assistance of class 57 57313 Scarborough Castle and operated by West Coast Railways. For a brief moment we catch a glimpse of one if Ian Riley's black 5s with empty stock heading to Scotland! Although I lost interest the moment I saw the conisist being dragged by 47245 VE Day.
Following lunch we move to Eastern Way bridge on the Settle to Carlisle, just south of London Road Junction. All set up and ready for the return of the two steam charters. Tangmere, visually, put on a fine performance. But less said about the incessant wind the better! An hour or so later 70000 was due! The sky began to clear, the sun came out and the wind died down. But to my sheer horror and disappointment the Duff! was leading the train. Word got round with the standard 7 suffering from an overheated bearing. What a shame indeed!
But oh well. The freindly faces at Carlisle are always ready to brighten up one's mood. With thanks to Tracy, Keith and Callum for having a chat 😊
