Thanks for visiting. There’s a lot of construction happening at the moment to connect all the various precincts of the city and help alleviate the transport issues. Namely the City Rail Link, which is the city centre underground rail currently under construction. Will be a game changer for Auckland once completed in 2026. Glad you got a glimpse into what’s on offer during your short stay. There’s a reason however why Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city, it’s well connected to nature (beaches, ranges, islands etc.). But at the same time it has the most international and local offerings in terms of food, business and entertainment. In saying that, the local habit of Aucklanders is that most people don’t visit the city during the weekend, they tend to stay in the outer metro centres of the city, which is why it’s less busy. But thanks for an outside perspective of our city. Kakite anō.

@@emmah3 Sure. Not all 1.7 million Aucklanders go into the city-centre every day. But as a born and bred Aucklander who works in the city-centre and commutes there daily, there’s a decent amount of them there. Should visit some time. 😊

Great tour - I think a lot of tourists manage to miss a lot of the really cool spots, because they're a couple of blocks off Queen street, but you seem to have found at least most of them! @Brandon-rq6jg Actually over the past couple of years, Saturday has become the busiest day of the week. Combination of reduction in people coming in for work post-covid, and a well-timed increase in the number of people coming in for food, leisure, shopping.... not to mention the 60000 locals who live there! This has been achieved by a lot of effort to create great streets and public spaces, as well as big improvements to access, lead by huge bus and train improvements over the past 20 years. A lot of Aucklanders are realising its become the only place in the region with a wide selection of shops and cafes, with lots of unique local businesses, and urban spaces that are actually nice to spend time in

Great video team! Great presenting and images. You found a lot of awesome spots around our city. There's plenty more to discover of course (you can't see everything in one go :). K Road (awesome social scene) and Waiheke Island would be two other top picks. And of course, you missed the best thing to do whilst in Auckland: an electric bike tour with Power to the Pedal ;) I respect your initial impressions/conclusions at the end. It is a great place to visit, especially in the sunshine. But to my mind, Auckland's biggest strength/appeal is as a place to live. As well as having lots of things to do and an awesome dining scene, it's a great base for exploring more of beautiful NZ. My wife and I moved to Auckland from Scotland in 2002. We were planning to stay 2 years. Still here!

Nice video. As an Aucklander I 100% agree that it's not a tourist city. As a city that covers a large area and is very spread out, things are scatted all over the place so it's more a living city than a tourist visiting one. Our cbd is also an embarassment. The 5 years I was at Auckland uni (which that clock tower is part of the campus) are the only years of my life where i've bothered spending any time in there. Majority of locals do their living in the suburbs. Only other times i'd go in would be for a concert or show. Also agree on the city planning being bad, i'd even say it's terrible 😂 Regardless it's home for me and like any place in the world it has it's good and bad.

My introduction to Auckland came through the 1992 ICC Cricket World Cup semifinal between Pakistan and New Zealand. New Zealand set a target of 262/7, with Martin Crowe scoring 91 runs. Pakistan successfully chased the target, winning by 4 wickets with only one ball left. Imran Khan, the captain of that victorious team, later became the Prime Minister of Pakistan. However, he is currently in jail facing numerous false charges.

Realistically it is less than 2 days for most tourists who are probably only coming to NZ for 2-4 weeks. I'm a born and raised Aucklander and not offended at all. I know that there's better parts of the country for visitors (and yes better parts of Auckland too) so we cant expect visitors to spend 3, 4, 7 days in the city and cut off days in other regions of the counrtry.

💯 agree with ur point about Aucklands road network being really poorly designed. Its like the made the city with zero forward thinking. I grew up in Melbourne which has a great grid like design with the main roads all branching out from the city center. Auckland really needs to sort it out. Its a huge reason why the public transport is so bad

If you stay in the cbd (which I assume as visitors you would), do the walk from town along the coast to mission bay / st helier's beach. It's popular during summer. There's also kayaking out to Rangitoto that can be done from there. I did a multiday when I was in high school but there's a saturday sunset that I really want to do this summer. Not sure how long you plan to be in Auckland but the CBD area isnt the most interesting. The Sky Tower and Waterfront is pretty much it. Nature, beaches and other things are all outside the main cbd area.
