I own a New-U Evolution Standard Kryptonite lock and I'm curious to know how it(or a beefier U-lock) would hand up to what might be called "creative" destructive entry(your style). I've seen you use the screw spreader to bust through cheaper bike locks(like Bell) but never the heavier ones. Is there a reason? Are they slightly safer from brute force?

A question for you LPL: you seem to suggest that disc detainers are harder to pick than pin tumblers. So, why haven’t the former largely replaced the latter in ubiquity for securing front doors etc., in your view?

Good question, Inquiring Minds Want ... To Know.
@lockpickinglawyer

First, they aren’t more difficult... it just seems that way because the tools and skills are less common. Second, unless you get into more complex variations, like the Abloy disclock, protec, etc., they only lock/unlock in a single direction. That rules them out for deadbolts. Third, home locks need support. People want locks for which they can run to the hardware store and get a key copy made... or call a locksmith for rekeying. That’s not possible for DD locks because the machines and parts are uncommon here in the USA.

LockPickingLawyer Thank you very much for your detailed answer and your tremendous channel. I’ll admit that I did suspect that ease of duplication might indeed play a role. Also, I thought you had a lot of time for Abloys, as I seem to remember you mentioning them a few times when you encountered one on your attempted “raid” of the LockLab!

Blink Bling Oh I understand, you are correct, he makes it look very easy. I just mean far as a starting point, using one that tensions from the front and has no false gates would be a good starter lock to play with. Just to learn what to feel for etc. May be a while before I do one on my channel.. A LOOOONG WHILE !!!! LOL 😂

Disc detainers seem to be a good place to start because they "stay put". The problem I have with pin tumbler locks is that everything is spring loaded. I may of course be completely wrong since disc detainer locks are exceedingly rare around here.

4 жыл бұрын
Yes, It's s good price, normally 18£, i got one And the mount on the bike holds very well, it's not too big so it fits in the triangle nicely, unless you have a drink carrier. Even then there are other options like the front forks. The only small disatvantage I found is you have to keep the key in the hole trough the process of unlocking and locking it, you can't lock it without it. Also you need to learn the pattern of putting the lock together on the right side.
