Gday Kevin, the fly cutter really leaves a beautiful finish on cast iron, when I put the new motor in my Ute in did the same with the manifold, I was amazed how warped it was, great video mate, Cheers

Hi Craig, thanks mate. I have tried different carbide tips for the face mill on cast iron in the past but the fly cutter nearly always wins for finish quality. Cheers Kevin

Nice job. I like how you showed the challenges of the setup. I have done a couple odd off parts like this but not being an actual machinist it is informative to see how you approached the setup for a one off job. More info for the mental toolbox is always a good thing. Thanks and all the best! Eddie

Hi Eddie, setup time is a pain on these types of jobs. If I had say 10 to do I would make/weld a jig for them. Thanks for watching. Cheers Kevin

Hi Kevin, very nicely done, not an easy setup. I was just smiling at how similar our workshops look, same machines, same places, lol. The only difference is your mill sounds much better than mine, how do you power it? Cheers, Jon

Hi Jon. Thanks for watching. The mill is powered by a 2hp single phase. Ive recently had the gearbox apart to check the bearings and gearing for wear. Was allgood. Cheers Kevin

Great result Kevin. The things we get involved with when the locals find out you have a lathe and a mill. It's always satisfying fixing stuff though. Cheers Andrew

I'm surprised that after all of that trouble to set it up properly and mill it with both an end - mill and a flycutter, you apparently didn't get measurements to see how it came out. I think it's safe to say that we were all expecting to see some verification of how well it came out :(
