Korean air needs an A380 747 replacement so getting the 777x is a natural order

@@EstorilEm The A350 order from Korean was for commonality with Asiana. The 1000s will also likely replace their 777-300ER routes The 777X is a replacement for their 747-8s and A380s.
@EstorilEm
2 ай бұрын
@@sainnt that doesn’t really make a lot of sense to me - the 350-1000 is more efficient than the 777X albeit at a higher initial cost. The 777x has no common type certificate or commonality with the 747-8 or (obviously) the A380. I suppose the -9 has higher capacity (at the cost of range) which may be their basic goal when replacing the four-holers, except those DID have the range - it’s really the only cheap replacement for something nearing the capacity of those two I guess.
@sainnt
2 ай бұрын
@@EstorilEmI think it's a bit more than that. Most aircraft have greater range by carrying more fuel. The A350-1000 not only carries more fuel and is a significantly lighter aircraft than the 777-9 which explains the range advantage. However, the 777-8 has a greater range than the A350-1000 despite being heavier, likely because it carries more fuel, but I digress. The key is efficiency. While not yet proven in real world use, Boeing claims a 10% better efficiency because that larger engine has lighter components and burns less fuel. Quad engines only have better range because they carry more fuel to power 4 engines...a lot more fuel, so they cost much more than twin engine planes. Finally, while the 777-9 has no commonality with the A380 or 747-8, it does have commonality with the 787, which Korean Air also operates, so my theory that Korean Air is getting the A350-1000 in order to retain the Asiana and Korean Air A380 pilots is supported, while the 777-9s will make them more efficient while still having better passenger and cargo capacity than the A350-1009 for the routes that are served by their quads.The range of the 777-9 will still be plenty sufficient for those routes.

When DJ talks about Airbus delivery delays, he always specifically mentions Boeing. When Boeing has delays, we have to hear all about the Boeing issues too, not just the fact that ALL planemakers are having delays. The FAA has approved the 777X to begin certification tests. I'm sure DJ will report that sometime next week. The 777X orders are now close to 500, which is about the same the much-hyped A321XLR, but way more revenue potential. With the so-called popular A350, 1000 variant doesn't even come close. It's not all doom and gloom at Boeing. Good things are happening.

Im always prepared to give you credit for knowing what is happening at Boeing, but often come into conflict with you over some of the exaggerated claims you project, mistaking what you want to believe with what there is evidence to believe or is likely to happen. First though, are you going to take this comment down after a few days, because you've lost the argument with me, and find it convenient to wipe away the evidence of that, because if you remove your comment, my replies go with it? You've done that 4 times now. I think we understand each other bro. So what I'd like to know is this: I thought part of the 777X certificate delays were due to Boeing lending more resources to Max certification, Emirates appear to think so, they're blaming Boeing for the delays, so how does the FAA approving "certification to begin" hurry up the delivery schedule? Lufthansa and Emirates say 2026 at the earliest, Boeing is still saying 2025, so what realistically is the current time line for this big beast to enter service. Thank you..........

Second, just because an aircraft has been cleared for certification doesn't mean it's certified. It may very well still be 2026 before it goes into service. Third, if the aircraft has been cleared for certification, that would explain why Boeing can now lend some of its resources to other programs, right? I don't mind being called out here because I can always defend myself, but with healthy debates we all learn something, so it's a good thing, not bad

Nice move by Korean Air. However, the 777X has been exhausted by it's in-service status for customers, due to the rise of problems within the company. The proto-type airplane is still undergoing flight tests. Many of the customers that have already ordered it, still do trust it's in-service status date and to not take up to much more time. Hopefully the Korean Air order can sway the possibility of getting it into certification and airline service soon. The unfortunate situation at Boeing doesn't get the company into a better state, because of poor management issues. They need to get the right personnel to get this company back into a positive state and place their line employees in a better position. We just don't know how long this will take, but right now even with some orders Boeing is getting, isn't going to clear things too much too soon at this time for Boeing and this is frustrating.

I wonder if the Boeing board of directors and their executive team are doing any work at all to bring Boeing back to the prestige of American manufacturing. Airbus, although happy with their increased business and newly formed partnerships, is very disappointed with Boeing on their safety and quality lapses. No way Boeing can afford another new clean sheet airplane design if their current airplane programs continue to bleed money. Boeing might ask Congress for taxpayer money bailouts soon.

For Boeing the only way is up and I believe that Boeing is gearing for the next 5-10 years and more. Yes current 737-Max-10 and 787-10 doesn't compete on range with Airbus, however there's room for improvement with both models in the future. I feel Boeing is currently allowing Airbus to take majority of orders currently whilst the company is restructuring their organisation within. One thing to note is that Boeing aircraft have a significantly longer lifespan than Airbus meaning a Boeing aircraft at 20 years of age still has at least and 10 years of life, where as a 20 year old Airbus aircraft most certainly is at the end of its life. Operators such as United or Southwest can comfortably operate existing 737 and 757 with no problems. You will likely see long term Boeing will dominate as (whilst Boeing isn't performing well at present) they are focusing on the next 10 years where the 777X Will dominate the large aircraft Market share same with 787 and 737Max as all these types can be further improved. Boeing has new types for the future and can be further improved before their release whereas Airbus doesn't really have new types planned for the next 10-15 years.
