I do not understand how to y and z positions do not change professor. Since we are shifting the entire coordinate system, shouldn't all coordinates, even the y and z of the vector change by an addend of the length 'a'?

Dear Professor Lewin, Thank you for the great explanations in the videos. They are making me love physics even more. However, I do have one question, if you would be kind enough to explain. At 16:23 in the video, you say that the two expressions are equivalent to each other. I have spent hours trying to figure out how the two expressions are equivalent, and I was wondering if you would be kind enough to explain why this is the case. Thanks, and have a great day!

I'll help you a little. 3r(vect)x/r^2= 3r^x/r. You now have to prove that x/r=r^doti^. r^doti^=r^_x*1=sin(theta)*cos(phi) I will leave it up to you to show that this is x/r.

Professor i have a problem sort of like this but i cannot solve it in this method as i have no way to find the coordinated and angles in the problem i was presented with. So can you please give me an email or something of that sort through which i can send you the problem ? Thank you in advance.

you can only send it here - but keep in mind that I do not solve problems for viewers - that's not what I am for - I teach Physics - 94 of my MIT cousre lectures are on this channel
