My favorite film ever!!! I love how in the opening scene he's literally trapped, suffocating, with nobody caring or helping him amid a traffic jam. In the final scene he has taken control of his life, is in a spacious area where he is free and happy and people do care about him.

Let's give a some credit to Nino Rota's music! It's like circus music but at the same time so haunting. It adds so much extra to this movie.

8 1/2 is my favorite film of all time and for a few reasons. It was the first self referential film and the opening sequence pioneered a completely new way to begin a story on film. While watching the latest episode of Euphoria, it was awesome to see that they used this score in a scene that encapsulates the same message of this scene, and that homage was a reminder of how after nearly 60 years, this film still has influence on movies and TV shows.

it wasn't the first movie to have such an impactful beginning. The first movie that did that was "Wild Strawberries" (another masterpiece from another one of the greatest movie directors ever existed...Ingmar Bergman!). Fellini and Bergman estimated each others, and Fellini admittedly said that he took inspiration from that movie while writing 8 1/2.

The older I get, the more humorous, cynical, poignant and tragic this scene becomes. It's all one big expensive, pointless dance isn't it. What can you do but join in. We're all going to die anyway.
