I have a Trek DualSport hybrid, but use it as a flat bar’ gravel bike - done 350km all loaded up around King Alfred’s Way - love it, and not scared of damaging the alloy frame …

I've been riding the Trek FX2 since 2022 but only got more serious riding this year. On group rides I was able to still outdo people on road bikes. Just purchased a road bike though so now I'll just be using it as my commuter bike.

@Hwilly919 sorry just saw this. It's an amazing bike! If you're looking for a commuter or general fitness bike, I don't think you can go wrong with it. While it can keep up with group rides under 30km/h (which is also just as much about the rider to be fair), I wouldn't recommend it if that's the main purpose.

I bought the Specialized X 3, 2024 model, still trying to find a road vibration free spot in the set up. Comfortable otherwise. Fast but big leaps in the gear set (1x9) is great for hill climbing and flat out speed but changing gear occasionally gives me issues.

I don’t see the fundamental difference between a hybrid and a road bike that means one can’t cost thousands of pounds and the other can. A hybrid user can want and benefit from a compliant, lightweight frame, smooth and efficient gear shifting etc just as much as any road bike rider.

What's the real difference between a hybrid and a gravel bike, the handlebars?
@JIMMYHIBBS1

The manufacturers will tell you there are 101 differences - but I use a hybrid Trek as my gravel bike - flat bars are better off road, and then you just need a decent set of gravel tyres (my DualSport came with gravel tyres)

Only difference is having flat bar. Usually, gravel bikes have nicer frames and builds and are more expensive. But a hybrid can do anything a gravel bike does short of winning races. Sam actually did a video about this named “things we don’t like about gravel bikes” or something similar.
Sam is becoming one of my favorite cycling presenters.

In my mind, a hybrid should never not have rack and fender mounts. I went 2023 Marin DSX 2 this year. Basically a better spec’d kentfield with a carbon fork. Sadly, it’s a bit awkward a bike. With the 10-51 12 speed cassette, rear rack, and kick stand, the bike is so rear heavy it doesn’t sit right on the wall rack in my garage, and a light bump will knock it over with a rear bag of any significant weight. I’m thinking I might need to move to a lowrider front rack and front panniers for commuting… unless I downgrade to 1x10 or get a heavier front wheel…
@Robert_Thomas832

Some useful bikes. Not much steel frame though. For a commuter alu probably better though my 1980's steel racer cuts through the headwind with very narrow bars and strangely has room for 40mm tyres :)

I'm considering purchasing either the Sirrus 6.0 or the FX Sport 6. Tested the FX and thought it was very nice but for $700 less, the FX 5 seemed like potentially a better option. I cannot find the Sirrus locally to test but did find one that's shippable. Oddly it seems to have been discontinued but it's now marked down to $2250. Which of these three bikes would you suggest?

What's the difference between a hybrid and flat bar gravel bike or even rigid hardtail?
@Vixen1525
8 ай бұрын
Almost None. But some of the mentioned bikes are a crossover of city and road bikes. Some hybrid bikes are also the same as road bikes or gravel ones with flat bars. Each manufacturer has a different definition of what a hybrid is.
@rob-c.
8 ай бұрын
Generally hybrids will have a more upright riding position than a gravel bike and be fitted with road tyres capable of minor off roads tracks consisting of smooth hardpack gravel. Gravel (and even more so a rigid mtb) are likely to have slightly more aggressive geometry and be kitted out and built for harsher terrain. There’s no denying though, that in 2024 there are a lot of bikes that blur these lines, especially when the ‘hybrid’ or ‘gravel’ label is supplied by the manufacturer depending on where they are positioning the bike in their range and the market.

Because that's the right way to say it. All languages using the Latin Alphabet spell it Aluminium. Why is it that American English keeps the "-ium" ending for almost every chemical element - tita-ium, uran-ium, potass-ium, sod-ium, lith-ium etc. - but is overwhelmed by having to handle two "I"s in this particular word? Simply ridiculous!
