Unless the city has a bonafide claim with the Marshalls to have the ship arrested they can’t just say we don’t want them to leave. The city is trying to inject themselves into maritime law, which is historically not something they have any jurisdiction in.

This has all the signs of the Captain, Chief Officer and Chief Engineer being hung out to dry by the vessel owners, so that they end up being responsible for the owners not maintaining the vessel, the Port failing to ensure that pilots and tugs are required at all times for transits under the bridge. Grace Ocean and Synergy will hide behind the corporate veil. We still have no idea who really owns the ship!

What about the officials in the city and port of Baltimore, and in the NHTSA who, for monetary gain, allowed the continued usage of this lethally dangerous and unprotected bridge? Are they allowed to leave their homes or the country? They are much more guilty that the ship's operators because they allowed an ever-increasing size of ship to operated near this bridge knowing that a relatively normal malfunction could, and did, cause the bridge to collapse. It is their job to keep the public and the bridge safe, and they failed to provide protection for the bridge from ships of such size that they should never be allowed to come close to that bridge. Oh no, they can keep sitting in their comfortable offices, while ships engineers who conscientiously do their jobs are being accused by the real criminals. Heads must roll at the NHTSA, but that won't happen. The government makes the rules and keeps the criminally guilty government employees safe.

If they were in port a few days, nothing happening they would take time off and head home. They get paid, but they can't really go anywhere except the ship, work changing schedules, unless they a. I can tell you never been away from home much... I went to Hawaii for work for 3 months, by 6 weeks, I didn't care how much $$ I was getting paid, when I got back I had a pile of mail, a list of 101 things to throw out, as it's lost time.
