My backgroud is southern mexican and I grew up and still consume black beans on the regular. Mexican style black beans are slow cooked in a sort of black bean broth. The soup is off the hook. Preparation entails salt and preferably a whole garlic or more; in addition to onions and green bell peppers. Once the black bean soup is finished and odorous, you add avocado to your liking. You can't go wrong with avocado in my opinion. It wasn't until I started getting into east asian foods was I pleasantly surprised how much the powerful black bean is savored in chinese cuisine.

Hey, Guobaorou is not Tenderloin, in is usually thin wide slices of pork, in a more liquidy sour sauce. Tangsu liji is Tenderlong strips in a thicker and a bit sweeter sauce. Both are amazing sweet and sour pork dish. Also Soup like that is enjoyed in Northern and Eastern Europe.

In defense of the people who don't like cilantro (and I am not one of them) for a lot of them it's because they are able to taste certain compounds in cilantro that the rest of us can't. It's the same reason that some people can smell cyanide and others can't.

On the comment about candy apples, it's not about trying to eat the whole thing at once. In my experience of eating toffee apples (a whole apple covered in hard toffee), what I want to do is each bite gets some toffee to offset the chunk of apple. What I consider the best type of apple for toffee apples are tart ones, which contrasts greatly with the candy.

I've been to Fu Run. The place is great! I am convinced though "Koreanized Chinese" food is based off of Dongbei food. Basically borders North Korea so not surprising they have fermented cabbage (not as spicy as kimchee). Sweet and sour pork reminds me of tang soo yook in korean chinese food. Sadly most Koreans believe korean Chinese food is fake Chinese food like American Chinese food (which is actually fake)

7:37 - As someone who doesn't like cilantro, let me break it down for ya: Different people have different taste palates. For me, there are very few things I don't like. I want to like cilantro, but honest-to-god, it tastes like soap. I have had the misfortune of ending up with soap in my mouth, and cilantro tastes like soap. It's super bitter. I also don't like spicy food because too much spice overthrows my taste palate and I can't taste the meal through the spice and if the spice is strong enough, it can trigger gag reflex because it irritates my throat. My mom is the same way. I come from Britain btw, and we tend not to eat a lot of spicy food. If I had to choose a style of Chinese food, I would definitely go for either Henan, Cha Chaan Teng, or Cantonese food. But I like seeing the more hearty, potato and meat-based meals coming out of the Northeastern side of China.
