We made the trip and hit many of these places on your suggestions. Although I grew up in Northern California and have seen lots of redwoods, this area is incredible and magical.

We also just got back from a road trip to the Redwoods / Oregon coast and Crater Lake. The entire trip was amazing, but Jedidiah Smith was our favorite place. The trees there were huge, and it was so fun driving through the narrow winding road. The Stout Grove is only 0.6 miles long like you said, but we still ended up spending a few hours there it was so amazing. We also did the Drive -Thru Tour Tree in Klamath and the Trees of Mystery which were also a lot of fun. Wish we could have explored some of these other sections farther South like you did but we just didn't have enough time.

Great video on this magical forest. The many trails off of the Avenue of the Giants are some of the best explorations in California.

Did you make it to the Boy Scout Tree? It is actually not on the trail. One of the best trails in Redwood NP is actually the Tall Trees Grove Loop trail that requires a permit and one of the main filming locations for Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. The tallest tree in the world, Hyperion, is not too far from that trail. A much lesser known trail which is 'now closed' but the trail is still there as it shares with other trails is Grove of Titans. This is where you will find several of the top 10 largest redwood in the world.

I didn't see the Boy Scout Tree" but I was wondering haha...I did research the Tall Trees Grove and yes saw that you needed for a permit so I skipped it, it seemed pretty easy to get though
@joyjoy534

@@GabriellaViola The permit is easy to get the problem is they issue only 50 per day and the parking area is even smaller. So you have to be there before the visitor centers open to secure a spot as there is no online reservation. The closest center is around 20min away from the unmarked dirt road leading to the trailhead, it takes an additional 30mins to negotiate the not very well maintain road. The Boy Scout Tree is actually up the hill on a small side trail. The tree has a wooden sign posted on it marking the location. It is abnormally huge because two trees fused together making it very impressive as compare to the average redwood.
