Since I paid more attention to psychology,I can see the mistakes and the good things too that my parents made with me...some people get mad at me for telling them not to scream at little kids and babies, but they just tell me to shut up because I'm still a teenager and don't have my own kids yet,I've promised to myself that I will never do this mistakes... another mistake I can see is how they always tell me that my goals are too big and that I aim too high, that killed my confidence when I was little, but It can't stop me now, my parents alweys supported me with money, and no we're not rich, I just wanna say that I could use more some advice on how to become better and some positive support then money

I agree. I grew up as very smart and only ever getting A’s and my parents thought I’d go to a nice college on a scholarship and be a doctor or lawyer. I started struggling in school a bit once I got to 8th grade and I got my first D. I was devastated and knew I needed help but my parents flipped! They grounded me, took my electronics, insulted me and asked why I couldn’t be more like my brother. My brother was 1 year younger than me and still getting A’s in the same classes I got A’s in. From that point on it was always “why can’t you be more like _____?” And I never got help. Today as a 20 year old, I can’t handle failure or comparison as well as others. I choke up when I get praised and feel awkward and when I’m criticized or scolded I don’t even do anything. It’s almost “normal” for me. I don’t cry or get upset unless it’s someone I really care about. I’m still compared a lot to others and this has really affected my relationship with my parents. It feels strained almost like we’re strangers but I still call them mom and dad. It honestly was the worst for me. I can recall the exact day and everything in my mind.

Spyro Mello I was kinda in the same situation as you as I was a student that mostly always got A but my work was never appreciated and they hated how I liked to play video games and start to compare me with cousins and there friend's children when they're were mostly idiots alcoholics or just plain lazy people that get low grades. That's why I don't like to talk with my parents as they clearly don't like what I like despite how good of a person I am.

My parents said i can play however i want, but i have to finish what i have to do first, then i can play. After a few days, i did the what they said but when they came back home and saw me playing games, they were like WHY CANT YOU STUDY, WHY ARE YOU PLAYING GAMES, and i was like i finished my work tho, they said that does that mean you have no more work to do? GO READ AND STUDY, YOU DONT HAVE TIME TO PLAY. And at the end they did not allow me to go out and play at the park, they dont trust me at all, compares me to my siblings, saying how they are better than me. LIke IM SICK AND TIRED OF MY PARENTS, I CANT ARGUE WITH THEM AT ALL. I can handle them, now i almost do not talk to them at all, they always yell at me.

Yes. My parents told me what a burden and a bother I was. I did not ask to be born. They "forgot" me (and my brother) sometimes when we were out, and the police brought us home when we asked for help. They beat us, and abused us in other ways, and gave us adult responsibilities we were often unable to fulfill as children. If they wanted someone to take care of some of those responsibilities, hire someone.

+You gotta…: What I'm talking about happened in the 1960s. My alleged parents cannot be arrested because they are deceased. The older I get, the more it appears that what I experienced happens more often than not, people are arrested and convicted when too much comes out, and that loving families exist in story books. At the least, people should be evaluated for why they want to have children, and taught how to rear children before they are allowed to parent any. The problem with that is who decides what is or is not okay, permissible, or expected.

So basically, don't do to your kids what the cruel, hard world is already going to do enough of to them anyway. Instead, help them understand that there is a such thing as hardship, horrors and pain in this world, and the best thing to do is to recognize that these things can and will happen, and to be prepared when it does. And the best way to prepare is to teach them how to make decisions for themselves as early as possible. Teach them of the ways of the world, as opposed to inflicting the harshness of the world upon them and hoping they learn the right lessons from it. Because more than likely, they won't. I am a personal testament to the dangers of 'misery builds character'.

All of these habits are extremely bad and need to be stopped! I remember being told by our Mom about finding out that her Aunt', my Great Aunt, was comparing me to her grandchildren by saying I should be more like them in terms of having a boyfriend, etc. A year later, that Great Aunt stopped saying that after being accused of stealing stuff when it turned out that it was her grandchildren and some of their boyfriends who were the culprits. When I heard that, I was tempted to ask her if I should be more like her grandchildren in being thieves, but I did not as I felt she had already learned a powerful lesson.

I've been through a couple of these but I'm still cool with my parents. I'd say a weak family will fall quick but when you go through a lot of things with your family most of these will do nothing. A mentally strong family could overcome many things meanwhile a weak one would fall apart from one argument.

It truly, truly is. I've experienced all of these things and let me tell you, being a people pleaser is horrible!!! I now keep my thoughts, feelings, ideas, loves, passions, etc. inside bc I've been growing up being told that "You're grandma gave you that shirt! You will wear it!" "How could you get an F? I knew we shouldn't have let you join dance!" "He's offering it to you! Take it!" "She's telling you something important! (it was how her sister was sad her dog died and I couldn't tell my mom I was getting bullied by my own sister for three years') You won't talk about yourself at all, right now!" "You're such a failure! Do you know how embarrassing it is to have my friends know that my eldest daughter is failing math??" I need to hear praise ATLEAST two to three times a day in order to not feel horribly depressed. It sucks because when I don't hear praise, I feel like I've let everybody down and I'm always doing things just to hear the bare minimum of "thank you" each and every day.
