Hi. Can you do a segment on what to do when one partner wants to live below their means, pay off debt and start saving money and the other partner sees no problem with using the credit card for whatever they want or think they need to be happy in life- and don’t see the value of not carrying credit card debt? I saw a comment one of your subscribers wrote concerning this matter and I agree with her completely. If you do not have your spouse on board - your other half can cause financial distress no matter what cuts YOU make (not to spend money). And, it’s not fair for a wife to not do certain things like a medical appointment because of the lack of cash to pay the bill, just to make up for her husband’s wants - I hope this makes sense. I have two adult children who are married and I think this kind of advice would be very good.

Yes! That would be a good idea! My brother & I are still single & live at home. It frustrates me that I try to live frugally but he doesn't seem to understand that. Because he is disabled I pay the majority of the bills & it frustrates me to see him not try to save money.

Separate finances. You have your account for bills, needs, etc. They have theirs for their wants. Have the accounts at separate banks. His name should not be on your account at all, period. Why? Because you're being a responsible adult, and they want to spend every cent on utter crap, ignore bills

Sit his behind down and lay down the rules. If he refuses, separate accounts for sure. As far as credit cards, if they are yours, try to cancel him or remove yourself from his credit cards. I have my own, he has his, nothing joint, no balances except for monthly bills and they get paid off every month not fail. We accumulate points and cash those in. We both are living very frugally as well, no arguments. I handle all the finances.

Not all people get into debt from over spending. We are very frugal, haven't taken a vacation in years. Our debt is from home repairs and vehicle upkeep/repairs. We own our home and cars debt free. The transmission went out $4000. The fridge and washing machine out only 6 years old! $2000. Lightning struck our well $3000 after insurance, etc. Needed new tires, old ones bald, $1000. We get something paid off and then something else happens. We just keep on going😪

I totally agree with you. You can be the MOST frugal and still have no money. I love listening to this program, but a big truth is that it is really difficult to even come close to this for single parents. Even if one parent is a " stay- at- home" parent, they are still contributing to the household, which also has value. I do not mean singles cannot strive for these values, but coming home from work to begin the jobs of the other parent already puts you behind financially. When my children were raised, I realized my frugal habits truly were rock- solid, and I could BEGIN seriously saving money at that point. A broken down vehicle in a two adult household can mean a second vehicle to be used to get to work while saving up for car repairs. When you are alone, you have to spend money to get to work. This is just one example... I have heard : " Never underestimate the power of two incomes!", and this is very true. Even parents who work at home allow for many dollars to be not spent. Tricky stuff. If you are trying to run a household alone, take heart. It can happen for you to save more money, but you likely will have to wait much longer.

Utubers like these are for people that have money and are just now learning what it means to not have that free flowing money anymore. It's not for people that have always been frugal and are now being squeezed even tighter. Our washer went out, we can't afford another one, so on one hand we are saving on the amount of water and electric but, paying at the laundromat. Since I work from home my clothes are being washed in the kitchen sink and hung out to dry. His are going to the laundromat. The stove I know is getting ready to see it's last days, however, there is no money after bills to buy another one, that is a problem. I can't find parts to fit the thing either, or I would repair it. Stuff around the house is being sold on facebook. While I do appreciate this channel for trying to help the new frugal people, us older people need better idea's than "just turn off the lights" and don't use the credit card idea's. Cash flow is going to be even more of a problem in the coming months and a bad sign to come is can veggies prices are going up. For all you young health freaks out there the price of fresh veggies are going up to so, settle down. Right now is not the time to be concerned about food, I do hope you have a pantry set up to at least last you a couple of months. It's time to stop buying altogether and get your CASH in order, not banking it. Remember, small bills and change. Watch the news and utubers in Australia and France to keep check of what is going to come next.

A lot of your tips can be summed up in the word PATIENCE. Patience to save, patience to wait for the things you want, patience to research items before impulse buying, etc. It takes longer to save up for what you want, but there is so much gratification when you are able to pay for that item and not have to worry about going into debt for it. Thanks Larry and Hope for all you do to continue to encourage us to live below our means.

I'm 34 w a 5 year old. We value protecting our daughters eyes from unnecessary ads and also the filth that is disguised as kids shows and movies. We found someone local who was selling 200 kids DVDs for $60. When we arranged Pickup, the seller says "hey I'll take $50 instead of $60 and I'll give you a DVD player I found and don't need". After weeding out the DVDs we dont approve of, we have fully stocked our daughters DVD collection for the next several years! Now we dont have to pay for streaming services, can avoid questionable and uncontrollable ads and know exactly what she's watching!! We consider this a win win for the goals we have as a conservative family! 😊❤

Perhaps Hope and Larry can do a segment on how one partner can approach the other partner on getting on the same page with respect to living below your means so that you can pay off credit card debt and start saving money. Within the segment- speak directly to both partners, then to the one who wants to stop credit card debt, and then very sternly and frankly - speak to the partner who is reluctant or doesn’t want to stop credit card debt! I am thinking if they hear the information from someone else, especially a couple who works so well together- it will have a lasting positive impact!

If youre "starting out small" and sorta, kinda adapting to more frugality - It is my recommendation to (pre)determine at the time of writing the budget where the underages or left overs are going at the end of the month; or the pay period, or week. When trimming and fine tuning the budget, i often wait 2 or 3 months of underages or left overs before reducing a budgetary line item; then i taje some sort ofva guestimated average if its a vsriable expense type item.

Good plan. After an exceedingly difficult frugality year I did the same thing. This year I opted for putting up walls using free standing floor to ceiling "closets" out of 1/4" plywood within my house and lowering vaulted ceilings to save on the space needed to heat or cool. My electric bill is $20 a month. My natural gas in North Dakota is $35 a month. Total annual savingsI traded space for money to save $2,500 and didn't have to move!

Telling people that at an older age they have made mistakes if they don't have a house that is paid off is short-sighted because you don't know. What somebody's circumstance is that led them to having a mortgage at an older age. Unhelpful to brag.
