Community Question: What was your most impressive extracurricular? In High School, I started a non-for-profit with my sister! For four years we traveled to my home country, the BEAUTIFUL island Jamaica, and helped the less fortunate! A group of 30 volunteers (my friends, their parents, my favorite teachers, my family, doctors, dentists, and my vice-principal) and I fundraised and successfully built (like actually built from the ground up) 4 houses for the homeless! The dentists, doctors, and students interested in medicine, the rest of the volunteers, and I helped 300+ patients at a local clinic in Moggotty Jamaica! Providing them with medical attention and fundraised medicine! Lastly, we brought fundraised soccer equipment, computers, computer software, and 500 bags of groceries to the Maggotty community as well! Comment down below your achievements and extracurriculars and I'll heart some of my favorites!!😛

wow so late to the game but binge watching all these videos have been so helpful! Also the U.S is a hugee country and I think the grocery store and eating habit scene discussed is definitely more of an east coast thing cuz in Hawaii especially, you wouldn’t be caught dead cutting a mango into slices

Mangos and fresh fruit . Maybe it’s an East Coast perspective but here in California we can get Philippine mangos. To get fresh fruit , it’s just a couple miles to go to fruit farms. And we have a couple of options to get organic food. The university I went to at Cal Poly grew their own food as we had an Agriculture college , so food served in all dining halls and on campus is grown on the campus farm. I didn’t realize then how we lucked out with fresh food !

@ljumunna5416
4 жыл бұрын
Hii - Int. students had to fill out a CSS profile through collegeboard.com and then in the case of Penn (and I'm pretty sure for every college) they require students to complete a document unique to the school (if you google *school name* financial aid). So for Penn it would be CSS and the Penn Financial Aid Supplement.

Can anybody tell me what is MUN or something like that? I heard them talking about it.
@katielast3535
4 жыл бұрын
MUN stands for Model United Nations- you basically debate global issues etc from the point of view of a certain country, reflecting the procedures in the United Nations conferences. You are part of a delegation (your team, pretty much) and your delegation represents a country. You then each debate in a different committee (such as human rights, ecosoc, etc) where you propose solutions to the issues that are being discussed, with the goal of getting your resolution passed.

I would have two question: Was is hard for the international students, whose native language isn't English, to study in a different language? Do receive any kind of financial aid or scholarships to afford studying at an Ivy League?
@dragondaniel0574
4 жыл бұрын
Can't answer the 2nd question since I still haven't graduated highschool but still an international student. For a lot of countries you get teached english in schools and get exposed to it from social media and so many kids are already at a fluent level pretty early on, or can understand quite a bit if not most of what you are saying in english. Might be different for developing countries, or special cases like Japan (Where you are exposed to it, but start learning at a later date of about 5th grade, which is also getting improved by the year) but overall pretty easy besides some really complicated words which you rarely hear for example; Enormity. (You might get teached that in later grades but if so then still didn't reach that point)
@kans01a76
3 жыл бұрын
1) you have to be near-fluent and submit the IELTS with a suitable score to be considered for admission! 2) International students must show evidence of funds and are not eligible for any financial aid from the school but you can apply to external scholarships!
@whadahek7
3 жыл бұрын
While I'm fluent and have nothing to say about the first question, I can say that every ivy offers fairly generous aid to international students. On top of that, Harvard, Princeton and Yale are need blind, which means they don't even consider finances before accepting someone. P.S. The websites for these universities are excellent resources for general info like financial aid and application requirements. Please be very wary of YT comments about this stuff

Been binge watching your videos for the last two weeks. Love them! Maybe you could try to make some videos about international students who aren't necessarily going to study in the US, but in their own countries? With high school seniors, perhaps. It would be really interesting to learn about the education systems in different countries!
