Sarah I was in New York last year I use a manual sports wheelchair and found getting about by transport a nightmare as you can’t use the subway as you don’t know where there is access. As a result I pushed myself around for miles and couldn’t see everything I wanted to, I’m coming back next year from the UK so please can you do a video for all of us that can’t walk or get about so easy as I’d love to see more of your great city that I see in your videos thanks.

My Mum and I travelled to New York from Australia this time 5 years ago (gosh where did that time go? ) and before we went, I did a lot of research. That way I had a list of things that I wanted to do and things if I had time (we were there for 11 nights), ended up I got through it all which was awesome. Mum also had her list as well. I ended up watching videos on New York which give me insight as to what I needed to do beforehand. Saved us time and money.

You had a great tip for making sure that people don't get scammed. I thought that I would have a great learning experience at a place called Smart Start, but what I didn't know is that I would be alone with the instructor for all of my classes. It was not completely bad though because I took an Internet Safety class and that was when the instructor was really nice to me. 💓😍

In Brooklyn, for example, if you stay near 4th Ave, there are allot of hotels that charge maybe 125 a night (sometimes 110 if you can get a deal). The subway is a block or 2 away. If you stay around 36th street you have industry city nearby. 5th ave in Brooklyn has allot of trendy shops as well. So staying at a hotel along or near 4th Ave Brooklyn could be a good move.
@Jesse615

I'm in Windsor T. and vouch for this. Fourth Ave. itself is nothing to write home about -- it's not scary, just kind of industrial. 36th is the heart of Sunset Park and that subway station is an express stop; much faster than crawling on the R to go to the City from Brooklyn. It's also a great nabe itself. And if you like history, Green-Wood is pretty much right there.

I live in the East Village but last month I was in between leases and needed to find a place to live for 1 month. Staying in the city was expensive so I ended up going to Flushing for about $45 a night. At that point the new LIRR station in Grand Central was open, and I kid you not, going from there (and it is way out there) would take 25 minutes and cost $5 dollars (LIRR inside the city is cheaper, don't over pay for that either!). I was coming into the city every day and it was just the best way. Also, if you are wondering why I didn't take the 7 train, it was because I was still farther east than Downtown Flushing and I would need to take a bus first to get there. The LIRR was a life saver! If you don't mind paying the extra 2.25 that it costs, it can save you 30 minutes each way.

@@chrisroberts8197 yes, subway was safe, you may encounter weird people, but our experience was ok, we went in subway all the way to Coney Island, the Bronx, Brooklyn and no issues for us, we asked people sometimes about routes and they were very friendly and helpful, aver all is the way to move around the city, we live in the Midwest and it wasn’t really complicated. The city is crazy but was safe for us, lots of police around.

Sarah, You should do an updated video on public transportation from LaGuardia. The one you have from a few years ago is WAY out of date. It's so much easier now. The Q70-SBS LaGuardia Link bus is fantastic. It's free, repeat free. You don't have to mess around trying to figure out how to get a ticket. Those buses come frequently and go directly to 74th/Roosvelt Ave subway station. The last time was super convenient because my hotel was close to the Port Authority subway station. It was less than a five minute walk to my hotel, and I only bring a carry on. p.s. I have told this to another NYC youtuber and they just ignored it, preferring to give out-dated info.

Great tips. If you are going to spend a lot of time in Manhattan, I recommend areas of Manhattan where the hotel rates are lower. I would not go to other boroughs or Long Island because it will be a headache traveling back and forth. Also, 3-star hotels in NYC are closer to 2-stars so stay away from them unless you are familiar with that hotel.

My mom & I took an impulsive pedicab ride from a theater to our hotel. I swear the guy was barely pedaling! He did make it fun by playing music & doing circles in the road but it was so expensive! I did ask him if he’d discount the fee if we paid cash which he agreed to & we didn’t tip. There was no meter so I felt like he had flexibility on those matters. He still made like $120 on what would have been a $20 car ride. Live & learn!! For us: no more NYC pedicabs!!

Just remember that while MOST subway cars are air conditioned it doesn’t always work and the platforms aren’t air conditioned, last week I waited at 38th for the C train and my phone said it was over 90 degrees during my 11 minute wait for the train. That’s a long time in excessive heat without a breeze, a seat or access to drinking water. And then we got on to a car where the AC was broken!

I find that most passes, whether city pass or a transportation pass, to never be worth it. You just don't use it enough. That said, with OMNY on the NYC subway and buses you get the discounted rate when you go above the ride threshold, which I believe is 12 rides in any 7 day period. It's a great deal if you plan on hopping on and off the subway or bus a lot, but even better because it doesn't require any advance planning. Also, the best way from JFK is Airtrain and the LIRR. It now goes to Grand Central in addition to Penn. And some of the best attractions are free, The High Line, Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park. And for a boat ride? NYC Ferry is only $4 for a cruise up and down the East River and to Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx.

I don't get the Madame Tussauds hate.. it's going to be equally pricey and touristy in any city you visit, because thats the nature of the attraction -- it's gimmicky. Might as well do it in NYC or whatever city you're in. A better tip would be to find a deal on Groupon or something. But i dont think it's scammy or not worth the price of admission. 🤷♀️ Just a strange message.. is it pricey? Sure. But it's the best version of the thing that it is -- a wax museum.
