I'm so glad I found your channel. Been foraging for a while but i'm right across from Michigan in Southwestern Ontario and sometimes i find it hard to find winter mushroom foraging videos for my area. Not many ppl know about the winter forageables. Thanks so much for this!! I'm going to head out today and see what i can find. ☺🙏💗

Hello from Grand Rapids. I'm very new to foraging but I seem to have an eye for blewits as I find them every where I go. Do you have a preferred method of cooking? Can they be dried or frozen?
@FoundYouForaging

Just picked a bunch today. Yes they can be frozen. I usually cook half way in butter then freeze. We eat them on homemade pizza and make stuffed mushrooms with parmesan and artichoke spread

Really informative and well put together, thanks. I read a lot about Enoki's being muddled with the Funeral Bell, but not Brick tops. Are young Brick tops not easier to mistake given the dark spore print? Thanks

It is a good observation. The younger the brick cap the brighter they appear making the reddish color really stand out from galerina. You are correct they can be confused with not only galerina but sulfur tuft.
@FoundYouForaging

You are correct concerning spore print. The spore Hypholoma are quite dark compared to Galerina. Young Brick caps can certainly be confused for Galerina .

I would watch the hell out of a video where you show how to propagate blewits and other mushrooms in the yard or garden. Also how did you get that subscribe button in the bottom right? I could use some help.

I'm going to have Dawn explain the subscribe button . I'm very unsavy to tech. Give me an axe and knife and I 'll homestead ; but computers are beyond my abilities

HI I'm Dawn!! Here's how to add a subscribe button. 1. Go to your channel 2. Go to your videos 3. Scroll on left side to customize 4. At the top you will see, Layout - Branding - Basic Info 5. Choose Branding 6. Select your subscribe button image/watermark 7. Then select timing (this will help you decide how long you want to see it on your video and where) 8. Save....If you need a Subscribe and Like Buttons, go to Google and type in free transparent KZitem Subscribe Buttons . Make sure it has a transparent background and saves under png. I hope this helps

I am Rebecca I am David & Dawn's #1 fan, haha 🤣 Are you using your cellphone to watch or smart TV to watch? If it's your cellphone tap with finger the red subscribe button and that's it. It has more steps like Dawn described if it's on a smart TV. I watch them both on my cell phone and on my Roku TV.

Wow hypheloma. I have never found this. It's funny I have a knack for identifying poisonous fruiting mycelium. Amanita veroses and amanita vaginata I find so many of. 😂 I'm not am expert so ve careful. It's like Terrence mkeena said "there are old shamans and bold shamans, but no old bold shamans." Shamans is his term. Replace if necessary

I wouldn't really worry about leaving any. The mycelium is already distributed throughout the soil. Mycelium is EVERYWHERE!

Plus, when you pull them and cart them back you distribute the spores, even in winter.

Hi!! I’m in NW Georgia and I believe I’ve found some, well a lot, of blewit. Do they have an evil poisonous look alike? I have read and searched a lot of google but don’t know any experts to verify. These are on a portion of my property and would love to think I could use these for cooking but don’t want to kill the hubster. Ya know?! Thanks for any help!!
@FoundYouForaging

The only look alikes are other clitocybe and cortinarius. Cut the stem and do a spore print . The spore print does not ruin the mushrooms. The Blewit will have Buff ( pinkish cream ) And the Cort Cortinarius will have rust brown . If you can find my video titled " Michigan mushroom hunt : October " I do a comparison of the genus cortinarius against the Blewit and demonstrate spore printing them . Blessings ...and I hope you have Blewits
