Was there a specific moment where he displayed that mentality?? For me, knocking down 2 free throws and walking off under his own power with a torn achilles is always gonna be my number 1.

Jonny Arnett I liked when Kobe had broken fingers in 2010 but instead of getting surgery he played through it. Most people would sit out a few games. Kobe played through it and won a title with it. That’s one of my greatest Kobe moments showing that mentality

I admired Kobe Soo much how he faced the adversity of the Eagle, Colorado case as a Man. He didn't run from it, he admitted to why he was in that situation, Vanessa was by his side (that's when she started to grow on me because the women in my family always thought she was a gold digger) and I especially admired how he played in playoff games on days he went to court.... 1999 lockout season, Orlando Magic vs LA Lakers. At the half time the Lakers were down by 20, even Shaq looked helpless. In the second half Kobe went berserk, literally winning the game by his own, he ended with 38pts. My favourite Kobe fact/moment was when after Pau lost the celtics (with him) and lost the olimpics finals (against him) he put his gold medal on Pau's locker, and when Pau found it and went mad to him, Kobe said an awesome speech to Pau about that 2 big loses he had that year, and they couldn't let this time being a third one, and they won the ring that season, keeping motivated every game

I do this too, but I think the difference is a lot of other players outwardly whine about it, like they want sympathy or something. It’s insecurity, and it looks bad. I was born in the mid 80s. In the early 90s my family lived in Europe (military family) and Jordan was essentially the only NBA star that was global. When we moved back I was already a huge basketball fan, and since MJ was the only global superstar I was a huge MJ fan. Then that young cat Kobe came on the scene. Being from LA originally I loved the Lakers and when they got Shaq I immediately became all Lakers all the time. It was truly a magical time as Lakers fans were blessed to watch a in his prime Shaq and an incredible young Kobe. As the seasons went on it became clear that not only did the Lakers have the most dominant player in Shaq but also the most skilled (overall) player in a young Kobe. For most of the 2000s I felt Kobe was the best overall player. He had the best overall skills (IMO), and worked harder than everyone else. Then Lebron came on the scene. Everyone wanted to talk about MJ vs Kobe and then Lebron vs Kobe. Now people exclude Kobe from the greatest ever conversation and its become MJ vs Lebron, which I think is horribly unfair. From my perspective there will no ever be another MJ, or another Kobe. They had intangibles beyond the physical that simply are once in a life time. Same can be said for Lebron.

Kobe should have ended his career with 3 mvps instead of one. I saw Jordan get robbed of it twice as well when Barkley got it in 93 and Malone in 97. But those are debatable. Steve Nash was not better than kobe or even on an mvp level. When it comes to the GOAT debate...People are delirious to say LeBron is better than jordan. Kobe is the closest player ever to Jordan. The league has been missing that type of player since Kobe left.
@K.R.20
4 жыл бұрын
Kobe had a case but I think you could easily argue Nash deserved those MVPs. He was the driving force of those Sun's teams and I don't think his stats reflect his impact on those Suns' squads. And MVPs are, at least I think more so recently, a large part popularity contest/popular narrative. Nash's seven seconds or less teams were the hot thing and when was the last white MVP before Nash? I also think voters have too many different interpretations of what MVP means. I think of the MVP as who is the most important player to a team that is in contention. If you take that player off that team then they would suffer the most. I don't think stats should matter so much. As good as Kobe was those years I think if you take Nash off those Phoenix teams that's a bigger impact to the team's success then if Kobe wasn't with the Lakers those years.

Boston chanting MVP for Kobe says all you need to know about Celtic fans. They hated Magic because he was misunderstood (far more Bird in him than Hollywood). How many players in the history of the league have had championship runs for the same franchise at least 7 years apart with a completely different roster? Derek Fisher left the team for a couple years and then returned again for the second run making him and Kobe the only two players on the '02 championship team to be on the '09 championship team. And Kobe goes back to back in '10. No other players that I can think of in the NBA fit this criteria. Todays players do not have the resolve or the fortitude to stick out a rebuild. Everybody wants to get traded to a contender these days. One day, Kobe will get the respect & credit he deserves for this all-time great accomplishment. Kobe da GOAT #MambaMentality
