The hypervigilance, always present. Splitting is the worst...and it can be triggered by ANYTHING...ANYTHING. The wrong word, the wrong tone, the wrong gesture, wrong facial expression, speaking, remaining silent, disagreement, knowing, not knowing. And then suddenly you're accused of being the worst person in the world, evil, or having some hidden motive, intending to cause harm. And no logic, no amount reasoning can change how she feels, because that's how she feels, and it must be because of something you did. Maybe you're being yelled at, maybe not. But you're already frightened of whatever impulsive reaction you'll need to deal with later....Maybe she ghosts you, again. She's back to heavy drinking, and using drugs, again. Maybe you stop by, just to check on her, and she's brought home and having sex with some homeless guy she just met on the street this morning. ...Real facts. ...Yeah...

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Unfortunately, our brain, being the causal machine it is, is eager to find a reason to explain why we feel the way we do. If you are in the vicinity when someone has an emotional episode, it is not uncommon for this person to pin the reason on you. As much as we would like people to change, whether they change or not is not in our control.
