Breezy? From FF8? Hell yea dude!! I’m an amateur guitar player even though I’ve been playing for almost two decades. I love the hell out of it but I just have never been able to improve much past a certain point. Even trying to follow all of Sams advice. But Breezy is a song I worked on nearly every day for a few months. I still struggle to play through the whole thing without messing up once, but it’s such a fun peaceful song. It was great, then a bunch of time passed and i felt like tom hanks on his last day on the island all ragged and ferrel looking but i finally got it down and got off that island and that song put me on a whole nother level. It launched me from suck to sick, posted it on my youtube page if you ever wanna see what youve taught, so thanks man youre the Barrios to my Sam Griffin

Hey there Sam. Swedish sub here. Great video, as always! Anyway, about the "going from suck to sick" concept: I've been playing guitar since 6th grade and I'm 33 now. So that means that I should be really "Sick" at guitar right? Well, not really as much as I want. So what I am thinking is that good musical genes might play a big role here. That and how young you are when you start to play. But, what I've learned is that I appreciate the music that I write and play, dispite not being as good as, for example you. I'm like a snes game that is running on a nes hehe. The software is present, but the hardware struggles to keep up with the framerate.

1. All of the Jack Johnson Songs - they teached me basic melody within chords, plus they have a good vibe and are chill to sing to. Especially Banana Pancaces, f-Stop Blues 2. Starway to Heaven - : Not much to say, we've all been there. 3. John Butler - Ocean : Opend my mind for different tunings. It was way over my skill level, but very fun to learn. Nice to explore the sound and the possibilities. 4. Classical Gas : Introduction to Fingerpicking. I've discovered Tommy Emmanuel and wanted to play his stuff. Although I don't like this piece that much, it was a good start and fun to play 5. Haba na Haba / To be or not to be : Everything from Tommy emmanuel and his master Chet Atkins. Tommys music is so full of love for the guitar and they inspire me to this day on. 6. Innocent - Joe Hisaishi (Arrg. by Hernán J. González) : The Ghibli Scores were my introduction to classical guitar. I've never intendet to play classical guitar, but by playing arrangements of Movie and Game music, I slowly became unknowingly addicted to classical guitar. 7. Kass Theme - Sam : I'm really glad to have stumbled upon this crazy fella. This Piece gave me the confidence to really get into classical guitar. Once i've learnd Kass theme it was the first Piece in my repoirtoire. Revali and Mipha shortly followed. I'm still working on the Phrasing and try to give them my own touch :) Really nice arrangements! 8. Julia Florida - Barrios : Thank you for showing me Barrios and Tarrega! I fell in love the second i heard you play the first few measures. Now I'm like a lovesick teenager trying to hear and play everything from these two. This Piece is especially lovely and kinda reminds me of chopin. 9. Capricho Arabe/ Recuerdos de la Alhambra - Tarrega (Love the Brandon Acker renditions) : This is the crazy good stuff. Working on these two to sound nice and flow easily. (especially the damn tremolo :/ ) 10. La Cathedral - Barrios : My long term goal and final Boss. It's really fun to play, but im not there yet (mov 3 is pure flex and expression ) Thanks for the inspiration, i would really love to see more videos like this. Keep up the good work, I love your Arrangements :)

I have add and I know more "first page of the song only" songs that I had to keep looking to find complete pieces I could get though. Le Catadrel, I never even tried it. Well I tried the first four bars, too hard for me but i too love Barios , that Williams CD, I had it too. I think he does and did play Barrios better than anyone on a recording I can find, so that Williams album is a staple for me I got into classical guitar from a Time Life Segovia album, and Bream's Guitarra. I used to watch Guitarra in the late 90's over and over and over. You like Bream right?

This was very interesting. I think a lot of guitarists identify with your journey, regardless of level. I also started arranging video game music as a result of my own. Especially Nintendo music, with its ragtime-like base and syncopated melody. I still suck, but my list goes like this: 1. Anonymous Romance: found an old broken guitar at home with some tabs to an easy version of it in the case. 2. Bach, BWV 995 - Gavotte I and II: blew my mind you can do multiple voices on guitar. 3. Bach, BWV 997 - Gigue & Double: spent 2 years playing Bach 4. Piazolla, Verano Porteño: found tango after trying to playing Barrios and Tarrega 5. Lauro, Natalia and Andreina: easier to play but have interesting rhythm 6. Dyens, Tango en Skai: I really wanted to play this because of the runs 7. Bach, BWV 1006a - Prelude: I transferred to guitar after playing violin for many years 8. whatever I'm currently learning/arranging, mostly video game music. Some video game music even taught the angle of my right hand was wrong. then there are several pieces I have intermittently been working on for years. 1. Tarrega, Recuerdos: one of the first pieces I tried playing, was not prepared. 2. Barrios, Ultimo tremolo (una limosna): tried playing this because I couldn't play recuerdos, was not prepared. 3. Barrios, La Catedral: also one of the first pieces I tried, was not prepared. 4. Villalobos, Etudes: I should practice more

I was a self taught guitarist, and even in my first year i tried playing and learning Capricho arabe cause it was sick dude! And i stuck to it like a madman, playing all day, crying at night for sucking but eventually learned the whole piece and polished it in a couple of months. The first thing i learned was this simple melody arrangement of fur elise, by a youtuber named fuzzymonkey i think, it's something fuzzy related. I remember in the first year also trying to learn recuerdos de la alhambra but tremolo sucked, i just learned a bit beyond the first cool moment, you know what I'm talking about. In fact, i haven't learned beyond it for a while, just a year and a half ago trying the rest, which was WAY easier than the first sad part, so i very much agree with your b string tremolo comment, i hate playing tremolo on a b. Julia Florida was one amazing piece as well, and I enjoyed koyunbaba, which sounds way harder than it is. That one in particular made me sound the sickest because it's simple but sounds crazy involved. Thank you for making these sick dude videos, kind of sheds a new light on classical guitar that I've forgotten, as classical guitar isn't as appreciated as just fingerstyle arrangements of famous music that i do the most. I haven't played anything on my expensive guitars for a while now and grew out of it (my most expensive guitar is a classical guitar, but it's a walden n2030, stay away from that thing if you're into classical guitar, i regret getting it), just been playing my beginner's cheap ass guitar with 5 year old strings and I'm having a blast. It sounds shit, it's not worth anything, but man it's the one that made me fall in love with this craft, and I'm all in love again. Thank you again dude, sick mullet dude!

At Tom Lee music in Vancouver about 21 years ago while still in my teens I bought a tab book called 'Hanon for Guitar' that introduced me to a lot of stuff. A few years later, while stealing stuff on Limewire and Kazaa, I stumbled on the old Li Jie videos which blew my mind. From there I found the site 'classtab.org' (which still runs btw) and downloaded the file on the site containing all the tabs and midi files of the songs, I went through every single one and began learning the ones I liked. Learned a lot of Antonio Lauro, some Segovia, some Koshkin, and tons of others I've completely forgotten about now. Learning them seriously upped my level of technique and now, 20whatever years later, it's nice to sit back and play the Lauro stuff since they don't require an extreme amount of technique. Maintaining that level for the harder stuff can be pretty draining, plus having long nails feels so disgusting too, lol.

Your list is totally on point! Learn koyunbaba and you will have an even 10 on there. Exact same thing happened to me. I picked up that exact same barrios CD at random and said I've got to learn that! Started learning classical guitar right away. Except we diverge there, I never got good enough to play that barcarola (or any Barrios). Adelita got me not quite sick, but maybe slightly under the weather. For me, ultimate sick mode goals is albeniz suite espanola yada yada asturias leyenda. That is some classical shredding there. Also Maxixa by our boy is madness. Barrios is still the 🐐!

You are the person that introduced barrios to me and I have to agree with you.... GOAT classical guitar composer!! I listened to that album and it was amazing. La catedral is definitely on my list of pieces to learn. One day Ill be sick too😎

My song is Standard Lines - Dashboard Confessionals, and then Maybe Hotel California. Songs that aren't a lot of power chords and strumming.

I haven't dabbled in classical guitar as much as more folky stuff, but Millionaire Girlfriend by Jonathan Coulton was what kicked off my fingerpicking journey years ago. Now I feel less equipped using a pick than I do just f i n g e r i n it.

I’d probably be better if I worked more on other composers, but I kind of have a Tarrega obsession. Gran Jota is a banger that I’m too ass to play but I’ve been trying for like a year. Serenata Española has also been a song that has basically changed the way I play completely.

Im not sick at guitar, but this reminds of those times where you hear a song, or a genre, that is such an inspiration to how you look at something, in this case guitar, and just start thinking about it differently.. for me, about a year ago, its been the introduction to mathy emo bands such as TTNG, Delta Sleep, Covet that had me thinking about playing guitar differently, and figuring out how to re-create that sound. Im still not sick at guitar, but I'm definitely a lot better than I was a year or 2 ago.

That's a very good list. I was taught the basics of classic guitar when I was a teen, but the first song I learned on my own was an arrangement of The Beatles - Yesterday. My dad loved The Beatles, so I learned it quick and played it for him. Then I learned Classical Soul by Oscar Lopez (or as best as I could from watching a guy play it on youtube). I then learned a few TouHou arrangements. My first attempt at a real classical piece was The Cathedral. At that point I felt very confident I could learn anything I wanted, if I worked hard on it. Boy was I wrong

I think sam's arrangements is definitely going to be something like this for me. He arrangements are ultra complex but with patient practice I'm slowly learning them.

So glad you did this video. My first one is you cover of Hollow Knight White Lady. I half learnt classical gas as a kid but I was a bit of a pleb back then so now I'm gonna go back and learn it properly.
