This camera (and deal) look great! I actually just got this camera at a thrift store as well but it's missing its battery holder. Do you think it would be worth it to try to restore it? I've found some deals online on battery holders but not sure if I should go for it. By the way, I've only just gotten started on vintage cameras and am in a very early stage of learning! Apologies if this is an obvious question!

Hi Shirley! Thank you so much for subscribing and for the comment. This camera is certainly worth restoring, in my opinion. It is simply nice, and the images I have gotten from it are lovely! Watch out for my next video, I will show some photo samples from it. If you can get another for parts, for cheap, go for it. I am happy to hear that you started on this journey, it is a fun experience and you will love it, I'm sure. All the very best to you. Cheers!

My grandfather just passed and we where going through his stuff so my grandma doesn't have to stress about it herself and we found this exact camera she let me have it♥️. Im going to be taking some photos of the family at his funeral (not during) and the after party (we are celebrating his life not his death) but ive watched your videos about it and its helped alot im definitely going value this for a long time.

I got mine the year it came out, ?1985 or 86. This week I got it out of the closet where it had been for 20+ years. Bought a battery and film. It took some getting used to since it doesn't have focus lock. Now gonna have the roll processed and see how the images came out. I was so thrilled that the camera still worked that I bought the 7000i for $8 at KEH. Now I have to go buy a battery and film for it.

Thank you for such a lovely introduction to this camera. I just bought one of these for about 12 dollars. I really enjoyed your talking about your feelings about owning something that used to be someone else's. I also buy a lot of old cameras from thrift stores and I often wonder about the people who looked through the viewfinder before me. It makes taking photos a very rewarding and emotional experience and it helps to feel a connection to others. I subscribed to your channel. 🙂

Your discussion on the prior owners of your cameras made me want to share... My first SLR was my grandpa's Nikkormat FTn. I took a photography course and we got to try out the teacher's SLR one day. I knew that my dad had grandpa's old camera but he'd told me there was a problem with it. I asked if I could try it and see if I could fix it. Turns out the problem was that my Grandma didn't know how to rewind the film! Sadly, I didn't know there was film in it, so I opened it up and destroyed my grandpa's last photos. I would have liked to see them, but, at least I have his camera, and I love using it! I never liked film point-and-shoot cameras, but I now have a digital SLR and a small collection of vintage film SLRs.

Emily B what a touching story! I feel your regret with losing his last shots, but as you said, at least you have the camera as a strong link to your granddad. Thanks for sharing this great story. Cheers!

FILM LIFE VLOG Thank you for another great episode! The 7000 was the first of the autofocus system 35mm SLRs so it is historically important. Unfortunately it - along with many subsequent models - tend to suffer from the body plastics shrinking and breaking off in little shards, but yours seem to be good though. Like many other cameras with an electronic frame counter rather than a mechanical one, there is a need for the camera to remember how many frames has been exposed, if a film is left in the camera and the main batteries goes flat. The 7000 is great for having a user-replaceable back-up battery for the purpose: with the battery clip off you can see a steel plate held by six small philips screws; take them off to reveal the back-up lithium battery; I would recommend putting a new one in to give it a clean start. Other cameras, unfortunately, have the battery buried deep into the guts, requiring a factory technician to replace. For instance, the Canon T90 requires the top plate and two circuit boards under it to be removed before reaching its back-up battery.

Ben, What a DEAL ~ You gave me an idea ! I bought a Pentax MV1 in good condition in a thrift shop for $10, every thing seems to work except the Light Meter ! The battery shows some life on the volt meter but maybe not enough to operate the meter ! Thanks for the Film Shooting Guide ! I was interested in what it said about the " Landscape by Moon Light " Downloaded Fine ! ~ Roger

5:20 hmmm never thought of it like that. Who knows how many previous owners hands used the cameras I have. Also the rubber grip has not deteriorated so badly as it is a common problem with these cameras.

Chipnava thank you. The thing with thrift stores, you have to keep going back. One day, hopefully soon you will succeed! If not try another town or city, you never know the treasures that lurk in some of the smaller towns. With film becoming more popular, I am having less luck in the big cities, for sure. Thanks for watching.
