Hi! I’m almost 74 type 1 diabetic and love your MD plan ! I asked for the book for Christmas . Immediately read it and began the program Jan 2. I began 100% green light foods for a month breakfast, lunch and dinner. I also did the decision tree for January too and learned a lot. On my! Now I’m doing green light foods about 95% of the time. Many great changes like A1C dropping from 9.3 to 7.9. I’m taking Prednisone which is a bummer or perhaps it would be lower. Cholesterol, BP, lipid panel all great . Thanks to u! I watch u all the time on Utube! Aloha, Cindy from Honolulu

I have got your book 'Mastering Diabetes' today. Gonna read it to have a better understanding what you guys teaching to manage diabetes. So far what I know is I eat what works for me 'My own diet'. I eat lots of vegetables (low carbs) and have moderate protein and moderate fat to feel satiated so my BS remains under control. This is working so far. My goal is never go beyond 120. I am T2 15 years now. My belief , as learned from Dr Bernstein back in 2005 was low carb was only way to control diabetes . When I heard you guys also exist (Just a month back) , I was surprised to see that you have different opposite diabetes management approach. I was avoiding anything that spikes my blood sugars...and fruit indeed spikes my one. Its always best to understand different perspective , facts. So I have your book with me now.

Great video. Thanks for being such an inspiration! I was always pretty skeptical of plant based eating because I believed the low carb paradigm that "carbs are bad". I've been plant based now for 7 months and feeling great. My HbA1c droppped from 7.2 to 6.4. My TIR improved from 65% to 75%. I still allow some olive oil just to keep weight, but overall I avoid processed food. For me movement is key and helps me get away with consuming some fat. Socially plant based eating is sometimes difficult, but feeling better and happier is worth the sacrifice.

I love how some of the best-tasting natural foods that lower A1c, blood sugar, cholesterol, etc. also happen to help you lose weight! I started on my journey after noticing more anecdotally how keto would make my blood pressure spike high like 140/95 but often higher, then when I’d stop animal products (except fish and eggs once per week) it’d go down-like really drastically, for instance 113/68 and 108/73 readings!! In only 3-4 weeks my LDL dropped 20 pts alone and total cholesterol under 250. A1c went from 5.9% to 5.4%! Still haven’t cut out all my pastries and still have had a fair amount of pizza 😅 But I’m on track now, much more salads, fruit, legumes, oatmeal, flaxseed, etc. This made my cardiologist very happy!

I don’t like how these videos say things like they’re “fact”. My insulin sensitivity is all over the place. Some days insulin is like water. And an equal amount of time its like my insulin is 3 times as potent and I plummet. So this “increase your insulin sensitivity to get better control of your blood sugar” is a slap in the face to me

@Engelbert Humperdinck 🙌🏻 Yes! Likewise I am vegetarian 🌱 (while not vegan I do follow a mostly vegan lifestyle ..) And my sugar is horribly out of control. To be honest though it is because I have genetic onset type 1. I have been sensitive to insulin since I started treatment (over 16 years ago) and the insulin sensitivity keeps getting worse. Its to the point where I am on a pancreas transplant list. Saying this to say I have tried low carb (keto) I have tried paleo in the past and now I’ve just realized nothing works and I eat mostly vegan simply for the planet and my physical well being (I feel better this way) and I’ve been doing this 8 years..but my numbers are still horrible. Removing animal products did NOT help me. I’m still in the same horrible position.
@melanie7068

@Engelbert Humperdinck that’s actually not true at all. I’ve seen over 10 including specialists at Mayo Clinic. Insulin, diet, exercise, CGMs and pumps (which I both of and have for years) only do so much. I have extremely brittle diabetes (some endos like to use this to describe people who can’t control sugar. But it’s actually something you have to be diagnosed with. Its when insulin doesn’t work correctly in your body.) there is nothing you can do.

@@melanie7068 Type 1 here as well, did the Mastering Diabetes membership for a year and got great results, but now - 2 years later - it's an ongoing struggle. Key is to reduce fat, even plant fat. And exercise, where I fall short since Covid. I was vegetarian and unhealthy for 28 years, now vegan for 6, and it is still a struggle, but much improved. I am also much older and feel that the youngsters leading the charge here don't get what that means. The "I can do it and so can you" approach just doesn't work. I wish you well and hope you can figure out some changes to get better control (less fat is very important).

Keto won't make you carb tolerant. You will remain insulin resistant, even though your BG will be low bc you're not eating them. To use an illustration, you have to unclog the sink when it's overflowing, not just turn off the tap. You need to unclog the muscle and liver from excessive fat, eat MORE carbs to challenge your cells to be more carb tolerant, on low fat plant based. It's in the presence of glucose that you become truly insulin sensitive, not in the absence.
