This is a tribute video to the 1984 Action (horror?) flick Savage Streets starring Linda Blair.
I honestly had never heard of this movie before, but recently saw it on youtube and decided to give it a try. I was really surprised at how brutal and savage it was, not so much in the violence that was shown but more in the subject matter.
As I watched, I really enjoyed the feel of the movie, being transported back to the 80's and all the clothes. The car driven by the villains gave the movie a bit more of a blended time feel, like in Streets of Fire.
So as I watched the movie I got the idea to juxtapose the savage story of the movie onto the Cyndi Lauper iconic smash hit Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. I never really liked the song, I find it super annoying, but it works for this purpose.
Linda Blair was quite the interesting actor in the 70's and 80's, a realization that I am coming to only now. Her list of B movies after doing the Exorcist in the 70's is fascinating.
I guess I find this movie to be an 80's version of an exploitation film. With enough time passed between its release and now we can look back at it and put it in perspective. I just don't want anyone to think that I am trying to glorify the brutal subject matter of the movie by putting it with such an upbeat song.
What do you think about 80's movies exploitation looking back at it 2-3 decades later?
