Talk about looking GREAT for your engine.. This DC-3 is 80 years old and it looks/sounds fantastic! Never did I think I would get the chance to see White Desert DC3 in Montreal so I am so happy to have seen it!
This aircraft was built in 1944 as a Douglas C-47 for the U.S Army Air Force; to fight in World War II. The aircraft joined the Royal Canadian Air Force that same year, and flew with them until 1970; it then flew with many different civilian airlines. In 2012, the aircraft was converted by Basler into a BT-67 (or DC-3 Turbine) and has been flying with ALCI Aviation since 2010 (as C-FOOW) and then switched to C-FDXQ after the conversion.
The aircraft was operating a special cargo charter flight to a remote town near Nain
in Newfoundland and Labrador. The aircraft spent the entire season in Antarctica operating charter flights for White Desert. They do the logistics for transport in Antartica! The DC-3 only returned to Canada less than a month ago!
