Lovely overview of the game...loving the look of the maps.

My pleasure! I'm setting up the first scenario today (the ambush one). So far so good. I thought it would take me a bit to sort out LoS rules but it was literally two minutes of reading during breakfast and I had them down. :)

Nice overview. Got this recently and in my que of games to play on my shelf of shame list. Really like flying pig games overall and found this topic interesting as I remember it well during my high school through college years. We called it Russia's Vietnam. Looking fwd to '95 as well. Keep up the great work Zilla.

Thanks! I'd be curious to hear how you like it as you start to play. I'm setting up the first scenario today to see how it plays. :)

Ooh! Squad battles AND semi-modern Red Army? Yes, please! This is a conflict I know next to nothing about. So...another topic to research! I just got out of a rabbit hole that started with the Balkan Wars of 1912-13 and ended with the last years of the Ottoman Empire. Fascinating stuff. (Just have to finish TE Laurence's book now!) So, thanks for another pebble in my shoe! Great video as always sir!

Sounds like you've got a lot going on! It's amazing how much of history one can think they know, and then you can hear of twentieth century wars you've never heard of before. :)

Thanks, Zilla. Nice overview. I like the look of the hills, almost 3D, and the larger size counters. However, not a conflict that I find interesting. Plus, still too many games on my Shelf of Shame.

Thanks very much! I feel very fortunate that we live in a time like this, where we can have access and time to play such a great variety of games. It's remarkable to consider how much it's evolved in the past few decades. :)

@@ZillaBlitz Amen. I still enjoy the oldies but goodies that are available on the market like Ambush, Open Fire, and some of the earlier SPI games. It just goes to prove there are too many games and not enough time (or is that table space :) )

Haven't forked out for this as the subject matter doesn't interest me in the slightest. But with that said, I do have '65 and all its extensions and add-ons because it is without doubt my favourite squad level tactical system. I've played SL, ASL, LnL, CC, OST and a bunch more over the years but nothing has matched '65 for its wonderful balance between realism, playability and sheer tension and fun, plus how evocative of what it is trying to simulate. Lots of people talk up CC when it comes to card driven squad level tactical wargame but in my opinion '65 is a million times better and vastly more fun, plus it's got AFVs and air assets and excellent rules for their inclusion. '65 is my go-to squad level tactical system and I'd imagine if the subject interests you '85 will be just as good.

That's great that you enjoy the system so much, glad to hear it. I can see how it could really grab players, for sure. I like how it aims to hit that "playable" tactical target. :)

I hope you enjoy it! I've started setting up the first scenario now and the learning is going quite smoothly so far. For a tactical system it's a light lift.

Those are some busy counters.
@ZillaBlitz

They don't feel that way to me, I think largely because they are 1" and 1.35". I think if the counters were smaller it would be challenging. There are a couple of places where the contrast on the counters means I have to look closely in low light, but on the whole I'm finding them to "function" well.

Id probably spring for the the "65 Nam" game should it ever hit reprint. Not overly interested in this one...

Makes sense. I know their website has information about a '95 game in the series set in Europe, but I'm not sure about a '65 reprint.
