Im in my 40s. I've been fortunate in my life to see the Chicago Bears win a superbowl, the Chicago bulls win 6 Championships, the Chicago White Sox win a World series, the Chicago Blackhawks win 3 Stanley Cups, and the Chicago Cubs win a World Series and been there every step of the way for each. I watched everyone play this game, from Y.A Tittle to Bubba Smith, to Gayle Sayers, to Tom Brady play this game. NEVER before has any defense played like this one. They had the right talent for the right scheme (the 46) at the right time. Best D-line....incredibly fast and smart linebackers.... and talented corners. Add a Yale educated free safety and it's magic. Most people forget this little fact; They played that year with 2 All-Pros defensive players on the sideline due to contract issues. 2 ALL PROS....Al Harris, and Todd Bell. This defense could have been even better.

After watching the 2015 Denver Broncos once again demonstrate that dominating defense will always triumph (after GM John Elway actually learned from his 2013 Seattle Seahawks experience), I had to come back here yet again, and relive memories of the greatest defense that EVER was ... and frankly, the team that changed how the game is played. Seriously, some of their stats boggle the mind, and might in fact be impossible under the current offense-favoring rules. But for the offense turning it over early and giving the Patriots a field goal, and the Patriots later scoring a TD in garbage time when the Bears couldn't play for a shutout, the 1985 Chicago Bears would have been unscored upon throughout the playoffs. That's ... incomprehensible.

I knew them the pieces were coming together. Oh my gosh. Did they. Each one of them came to the line of scrimmage with the tools. And nobody since has ever equaled what they did. @@@rudolphguarnacci197 You certainly know of this same pain, but you have had far better QB recent play then us til we took Mitch. An you had Herm Edwards a better coach then anyone we had other then Lovie and now Nagy.

If not for a few bad bounces in Miami, and they could be the only team to go 18-0. I still believe this defense was the greatest every seen by the NFL!

One of the best defenses ever. Then you got Jimmy Mac, Walter Payton, Willie Gault on the other side. Jimbo Covert. Ditka. Da Bears

Diehard Steelers fan, had season tickets to the Steelers from 1975 to 1985. I I watched the GREATEST defense play LIVE, the 1976 Steelers. Even ESPN rated them #1, and the statistics are sick to how many shutouts there were, but let me tell you, the 85 BEARS had more characters and more flavor then any other team, and if I had to choose which one I would take, I’d HONESTLY take the 85 BEARS OVER the Steelers, and just mentioning this here I would be disowned by family and several friends. So saying this on here is REALLY making a statement coming from me. Let me just say one more thing, I still think without Otis Wilson, Wilbur Marshall, and Gary Fencik, that team is NOTHING. Those three STARS, WHO SHOULD BE IN THE HALL OF FAME, receive absolutely NO CREDIT WHATSOEVER, because Singletary receives all the accolades. Don’t get me wrong, Mike was a STAR by himself, but those three I mentioned, are disregarded as stars, and thought of as just GOOD players. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? Go watch the films, even when they left the Bears, they still made Pro-Bowls. Oh I love the three HOF’s from the defense, Hampton, Dent, and Mike, but the unsung heroes are Wilbur, Gary, and Otis. Just as I’m not a Cowboys fan, but how can Pearson, Charley Waters, and Cliff Harris NOT be in the Hall of Fame??? Or the one that bothers me the MOST is Kenny Stabler??? NO ONE was bigger in Meaningful Games then Ken Stabler. Forget the stats, just look at the Contributions those players I mentioned made to put all of them with Super Bowl wins for a lengthy period. As I said, saying those players belong in the Hall, Kenny, Cliff, etc, is saying something since I HATE Dallas and the Raiders. But I’m ALWAYS on the level, just as Donnie Shell from my team belongs in the HALL OF FAME, but will never be considered. Maybe one day all those talented players from the 1970s and 80s will wear the Yellow coat. If you didn’t have the opportunity to see these players play, go watch the films. It’s like watching Eric Dickerson, so much grace and talent. Thank as for reading this, and I wrote this from my VA hospital bed, Semper Fidelis, Captain T, U.S.M.C.

I played sports in school, I grew up with cowboys, but when the bears signed on Walter Payton the Bear's were Born! in 1985 a frieght train was assembled and there wasn't a team in the NFL wanted any part of the bears! they had heart, rythem and soul! where they came from didn't matter everyone from across the country were seeing not just a hard packed game they were seeing history like never before and will never see again, my compliments sir

For some reason, I begin to imagine the modern PFL (Pansy Football League) penalizing these guys for their bone-crushing, lowered-helmet, etc. hits. But they keep doing it. And then they keep doing it. Then, after about seven or so 15-yard penalties to put the enemy offense on the goal line...the drive NEVER ENDS, because the penalties can never give more than half the distance to the goal, once down in close...but the offense CANNOT get in. Or do you think they'd just eject all the '85 Bears' starters, for winning the sport of football?
