I bypassed my heater control valve so it was constantly pushing hot coolant through my heater core and it did not turn out to well. I fired my jeep up at 6 in the morning in the winter to let it warm up and went back inside to take a shower. I didn't have the blower motor on and the heat accumulated around the heater core to the point where the inside of my dash caught fire and i came out side and saw my jeep full of smoke. luckily my hose was right next to the jeep and i had to blast it into the defrost vents and up under the passenger side of the dash to get it out. melted a ton of wiring and my radio heater controls and all the lights inside the jeep never worked again it sucked big time so be careful! Love your videos man have seen almost all of them you seem like a great guy and i enjoy your sense of humor. keep it up !

What in the hell? Sounds like something fishy there, because the heater core is only going to get as hot as the coolant inside it and I doubt the jeep was over 220ºF so I'm curious what would be able to spontaneously combust at such a "low" temperature. I would blame an electrical fault or something dripping onto hot exhaust before I blame the heater core. Regardless, that really sucks. But anyway, thanks for the kind words.

I thought it was strange as well, I did pull the blower motor afterwards and found this material packed by the heater core that looked the same as what our carpet padding in our jeeps is made out of, could have been a rat nest considering the jeep sat for 5 years before i bought it but hey you never know. Appreciate the reply! Have always wondered is your 89 your first vehicle? Every time i watch one of your videos i think back to your early post where you sunk your jeep in that big puddle just for fun, I think its cool to still see it progressing from where you started.

Mice chewing up wires sounds a lot more likely, lil bastards. And if you go back far enough, you'll see the days when I use to off road my Honda CR-V, haha. That was the first vehicle I ever had, but eventually bought the Jeep when that minivan couldn't keep up with my buddies stock MJ. But yeah, took a completely stock XJ and built the crap out of it through trial and error, and this thing is pretty damn capable now. Wouldn't mind a hydro assist, supercharger, and partial exo, but It's getting there, haha.

Ha, I'll have to check that out. My first was a 95 all rotted out beat it to hell through a rod and still drove it home with 0 oil pressure on the highway for 70 miles, After that i was hooked killed 2 more got my dad my 2 best friends and my uncle to buy xj's. now finally have a nice clean 98 i got from a buddy who won the lottery so i got a good deal. It's tough though have so many projects and so little time plus 2 little ones and the woman to keep happy. So here i am dreamin watching youtube and pinchin the pennies until it all pays off. I'll Have to try and get a video out soon so you can kinda see where I'm at.

Damn, sounds like you've certainly had some fun then. It's hard enough to save with just a Jeep so I bet a whole family is a steady drain for sure, haha. But building it bit by bit, you'll get there eventually.

The issue where you need to give it gas to turn on might be from a stretched out accelerator cable. Replace that or tighten it from the gas pedal end and that should help
@NickInTimeFilms
5 жыл бұрын
You sure about that? The gas pedal doesn't keep tension on the throttle body so it rests where it is pulled tight. The idle speed motor is what opens the throttle body to actually make it start

I really like these videos. Haven't seen anyone else put together such a complete video record of a build and repair set like this. Thanks! Sorry I'm a bit late to this party but that camshaft sprocket pin broken and the camshaft not turning must mean bent valve stems. The noise from the intake on cylinder one indicates that. Cylinder two is a bit of mystery unless the rings are very badly worn. Cracked ring land perhaps? Did you ever find out what it was?

Amigo, tengo un problema con la comanche y es que cuando esta muy frio no arranca y cuando arranca, lo hace erradamente, no acelera bien, caliento el distribuidor con un foco y arranca de patada, que crees que sea?
@NickInTimeFilms

Does the distributor have water in it? Good contacts still?
@robertosolis8870
Жыл бұрын

TheAmericanUhate you'd think it'd get good mileage but I never pulled more than 13mpg from it when I was driving it. I hope that's just due to fueling issues because otherwise that's terrible considering my 4x4 4.0 gets the same mileage.
@TheAmericanUhate

It's nice being able to sale it to someone like Nick where you get to see it being fixed and how it turns out. I always wonder about my old vehicles that I've sold lol. 13mpg had to have some sort of issues causing that. My 4.0 Jeep got around 20mpg stock, a little less now that I've lifted it lol. Your 2.5L 5 speed came with 4.10 in the rear end didn't it?

@NickInTimeFilms

The engine feels like it's still good and the compression test shows that it's in decent condition besides cyl 2 which may even be the knock culprit. I'm still debating if i want to tear into it and fix it more or just leave it, polishing a turd and all.
