I like the idea of bringing the fenders back on the Queen Mary. It reminds me of when I wanted a gear stick for my Trabant. My friend from Germany bought it over on the plane and used it as his walking stick. Nobody question him. Both cars are now looking spectacular and I hope you get to enjoy them before the winter sets in. Keep up the good work.

Putting plastic clips in warm water makes them less brittle. To make a round hole square, grind an thicker coneshape square further up it and hammer it in, but make sure to have a way to get it out afterwards.

Your mention of having an inside cabin on the Queen Mary to bring your front fenders back from the USA being cheaper than the shipping cost reminded me of one of my adventures restoring my Rover P5, a very rare car in this country. My original front brake calipers were shot. I could not find anyone in the USA who would rebuild them, so I shipped them off to the UK. The cost was rather surprising due to the weight. A few months later I just happened to be attending a conference in Germany, and it turned out it was cheaper for me to add a stop in London, hire a car, attend a Rover P5 rally, and then pick up the calipers than it was to pay the shipping and import duty to get the calipers back to me.. I then had to figure out how to get them on the plane. They were too heavy to put in my checked bag, but it turns out the airline I was flying (can't remember which one now) had a size restriction for carry-on bags, but not a weight limit. You just had to be able to get it into the overhead bins. I proceeded to go through security, and I told the nice chap supervising us when we were putting our luggage on the conveyor belt to be x-rayed that I had some parts for my British car in my bag. Sure enough, the fellow operating the x-ray machine saw something suspicious, but the supervisor told him "It's just some car parts" and they lat me through. I was young and strong enough to get the bag up into the overhead compartment, but I must admit that during the flight I was hoping that the engineers who had designed the airplane had used a generous safety factor when calculating the loads of the bags on the overhead bins. Fortunately for me, it all worked perfectly, and I was able to put the calipers on my P5 and go for a drive. All in all, a very satisfying trip.

Loving the badge. A tip i learned recently to find if a squeak/squeal is coming from the alternator bearings or the belt itself, is to spray a bit of water or wd40 onto the inside of the belt with the engine running (carefully obviously!). If the squeal/k stops at least temporarily, then it's just the belt, if it doesnt stop it's the bearings. P.s., that glue in my experience is useless - gave it 24 hours under weights to cure but it was still completely wet and just pulled apart easily!

After the '90s Ford settled on a version of the 4.6 as used in the Mustang, and kept improving it until the car was replaced. This Rover P6 had a 3.5 from new, the same engine was updated and used in the Range Rover as a 3.9, 4.0 and this 4.6

Some aftermarket plastic stuff just sucks. I bought a set of 8 headlight adjusting screws (in the little plastic clip things) and every single one of them broke on installation, no matter how gentle I was. I got my $10 back, and just designed my own and 3D printed them. So far, so good on those, but some other little 3D printed bits I've made for my car have not survived the summer heat, even not being in direct sunlight.

For something like this you could probably just measure them and model them in 3D CAD. That's what I did for the plastic throttle pedal-to-cable linkage on my Peugeot Expert, I used FreeCAD and it took me a whole day because I didn't know what I was doing, but then I got a work colleague to 3D print the part and it worked perfectly. I also 3D-modelled the front subframe's captive chassis nuts when I ruined one of them, in case I needed a machine shop to manufacture replacements, but in the end I got a friend of a friend to make a new set using one of the old ones as a template.

Uk petrol is absolutely rubbish with your E5 & E10 garbage. I put nothing by Vpower in my cars even in Australia where ours at least doesn’t contain any ethanol unless specifically marked on the pump. I’m a mechanic as my day job in Australia & I absolutely loathe E5/E10 with a passion. These fuels destroy older systems quite rapidly.
