I think it's because of the location/trajectory of it. A huge storm like this has not hit Tallahassee or some of these areas in Apalachee bay in over a 100 years. There are many low areas (Wakulla and Franklin County) where there has been a lot of home building, and populations have increased. Also this storm is pretty large, formed fast and as he says will probably sustain as a hurricane all the way through Columbus GA - which is not normal. Oftentimes hurricanes are downgraded to tropical storms after making landfall. Lastly the predictions on storm surges are really enormous. The winds will kill and injure some people but the storm surge has potential to kill hundreds and possibly more.

"Dumb" question. The official track shows somewhere around Tallahassee and your map shows Crystal River. How come the discrepancy? And why won't anyone every talk about it. Of course not - the area in red is affected by the storm and the 4 is placed where it will hit on the Apalachee Bay coast.
"Once in a lifetime" ? Why is there no forecaster talking about Cat 5 Hurricane Michael 10-2018? It was forecasted to be a cat 2, then intensified to a cat 5 just before landfall. Might be because the most mistakes were made in forecasting. Ever.

I think people have to realize that "Once in a lifetime," is really dependent on the city you are in. This very well might be for the big bend if it does as the models are showing. That doesn't mean that X hurricane that wrecked your home wasn't bad. It just means that it may have different historic records broken. None the less, be a little more kind and patient with everyone. This is stressful for everyone in the path. You aren't the only person worrying about this. The models are outdated - within 12 hours of the model intensity I showed from Tropical Tidbits - the intensity was already 15 mph too weak. If you watched Michael and Ian and Dorian and every other Category 4 or greater, the models all failed to get strong enough. I am simply highlighting that weakness because it is important for the people in the path. If it's 125 mph and the forecast was 130 mph, in theory that may sound like a bad forecast, but if it gets people to act, it's a great forecast!
