I knew what this video was the second that I saw the thumbnail. I originally watched the match when it aired and I picked up broadcast right around the same place where this video begins. The shot that Earl Strickland made in the first minute was the shot that got me into pool. I had never seen anything like it and I doubt few others had either. What a great shot.

+g robbs And cheering Earl for a jump shot, no less (0:55). Nowadays, Earl detests jump shots, and any opponent who dares to do one will experience Earl's complaining and nagging and so on, to no end.

Earl loves jump shots. What he hates are JUMP CUES. He think that you should use your regular cue stick to execute such a shot.

ive also heard that earl beat efren more in big tournaments. efren is the better pool player, but earl is the better 9 ball player. if you watch the color of money you can see that when earl is breaking will and gets that two stroke going he is extremely hard to beat. but earl beat himself, and efren remained patient and then capitalized.IMO earl is the greatest 9 ball player to ever live, just the way he runs the racks, hes like a machine.

If it is so obvious that Efren is so much better how was it that he was behind by so many games. These guys are so talented and so close that whichever one gets hot on the break will have streaks. Earl did not break weill and allowed Efren back in-they are both awesome players

btw: these are 2 of my fav. pool players,(i like efren's style more but earls personality) and both players are extremely gifted and i am a firm believer that efren is the greatest player of all time. but give credit where it is due, earl has probably won more 9 ball tourneys than anyone on this planet. when strickland was in his prime, he was recognized over efren as being the better 9ball player. efren was the underdog to strickland, but the pros always knew efren was better all around player.

ive been watching earl/efren matches for awhile now, ive watched every match they have had on youtube and most of them show efren winning. although ppl wanna see efren play more than earl, there are many more efren vids than earl vids. i will say they are very close in 9ball, on a given day players at that high of lvl can beat each other. 1997 US open earl beat efren, before the match grady seasons said earl has had more success than efren under the lights of tough matches.

Efren is the best player of a generation. But to say that Earl is only good at nine ball is ridiculous. Actually, I once said this to a pro player in Houston, Texas. After giving me the wide eye, he said, "he consistently runs 100 balls in straight. Is that a good player?" Feeling stupid, I said yes. Plus Earl is fun to watch! Just enjoy greatness folks, and don't do the "kobe vs. michael" conversation on every friggin player.

earl is better nine-ball player. when he is on he can give the world the 8ball. but efren gives the world 9 to 7 playing one-pocket. even efren knows earl is superior but not stable. 5time USOpen champion, 6time World champion

I hate the yellow table, our college is hosting a regional tournament this year and talking about doing all the tables in bright orange with our mascot symbol painted into the cloth in the middle of the table, if this is throwing off professionals, causing them to miss easy shots, imagine what it will do to college players. No me gusta :(

to those who are saying that Earl Strickland has beaten Efren Reyes more times..please prove it! All Earl knows how to play is 9-ball..while Efren knows every kind of game in pool even carom which has no pocket at all! If you all gonna watch the Color of Money (race to 120), watch the last 10 racks and you'll see who is the better player in terms of skill, patience, strategy, and mental toughness! Of course, the arguably best pool player of all time! Efren Reyes..

In my opinion, Efren is better than Earl in 9-ball..you can even watch it here in youtube on how many times Efren beat Earl in tough situations..Earl only wins if he is lucky on the break or if the balls favor him..unlike Efren who can run racks in the toughest of the situations..can come from behind even if Earl is on the lead! If you are a pool player, you won't see them on how they run balls..it's on how they play the game physically, and mentally. Earl doesn't have the mental ability.

+Jack Chesnut I've loved it for 25 years! I've put in 1000's of hours on the pool table and in a couple of years I'm coming back to the pro circuits I've been in the shadow's for a long time now only a few people around here know how great I once played and now I'm even better than I once was I've beaten two state champion's and no one even knows about it because no one likes to admit they have been beaten by a no body lol.

craig howard Best of luck in the comeback Craig!! I'm an enthusiastic player that used to play 8-ball in the APA. I was ok. If you are familiar with how the APA ratings work, I was a 5.. Better than average I guess. I won more than I lost. Now I just play in my basement with my son and when friends are over.. I would say I put in about 3 hours a week. My favorite game now is 9-ball..I love the game.. What about you? 8-ball? 9-ball? 10-ball?
@choward874

+Jack Chesnut my favorite is 9 ball lol my high run was 16 racks now that was 15 years ago but I had always shyed away from 8-ball because I was never that great at it but today I'm twice the player I was, now I love 8 ball so it's kinda a toss up I'm just as good at 8 as I am 9 and I love 10 but I'd have to say it's still 9 ball.
