'Boy racer' is used a lot more in the UK, or at least it was in my area. From memory I think it was used to describe most car enthusiasts, failing to differentiate between the genuine passion (with something about their car that is visually or audibly different for genuine performance reasons) and the all noise (fart cans), all looks (RICE (earlier definition)), all wreckless driving (joy riders, etc), and the all smoke no poke (maybe more of a Northern Ireland thing, diesel Boras (Jettas to those in the US), Peugeots (205 D Turbos mainly), and Golfs that were all turbo whistle and produced thick black smoke screens that James Bond would be jealous of, difference being they'd still be within view even after the several minutes the smoke took to dissipate).

It makes sense why "standard" isn't really the proper term for an manual anymore, but was at one time. It was used because a manual transmission came standard on the vast majority of vehicles, while an automatic transmission was an added cost option. Now on most vehicles, even if they offer a manual, automatic is the default or "standard" transmission, while a manual is a no-cost option.

I don't hear people saying "sick" as much as I used to back in the 2000's and if people do use it now, it's usually ironically. Don't hear people saying "rims" as much either. They usually just say wheels now. Also, here in the UK, people used to say "wicked" and "bad" to refer to something cool back in the 90's and 2000's, but both terms have faded away since then. You may occasionally hear a chav referring to something they find cool as "bad", but it's pretty uncommon now compared to back in those days.

My first vehicle was a pickup truck with roll-downs and my right deltoid has remained significantly more defined because of that. Also, don't try and roll down your passenger window while driving...there's a reason I don't have that truck anymore!

I will say for hot rod, it’s not fully out of the picture as when it comes to something like emissions, a car with an engine swap that doesn’t originally come in the car is also known as hotrod

Funny personal story about hoopties. So my stepdad used the term quite a bit. Which, of course, got me using it, although I've noticed I don't really use it anymore. I tend to say beater. Either way, as a kid, I visualized the word the moment I saw a beat up Audi with the four "hoops" in the logo. So, for the first few years of my interest in cars, I thought Audis were hoopties. Until my dad said he liked an Audi that was driving by, and I said "Why? They're hoopties!" To which my dad asked where I got that from. I'm sure that was amusing to him. He explained my mistake there. And now I think Audis are pretty cool. Especially the RS4 Avant.

I use suped up as kind of a "the next logical step" when talking about versions of engines and how they relate to each other, or thinking about engines not yet made
