Yes, carbamates will eventually be diluted out of the CNS. However, their toxic action is to increase AcCh so that the muscles and other systems that use AcCh as a neurotransmitter are over-excited. So you would not want to give AcCh as a treatment as it would be like pouring gas on a fire. Atropine, a competitive inhibitor of the AcCh receptor, is the treatment. It competitively blocks the receptor so it cannot over-respond to the AcCh that accumulates in response to the esterase inhibition.

Carbamates do not bind permanently to acetylcholinesterse, but can they be removed from the nervous system? Just curious how would a human poisoning be addressed? acetycholine suppliments?

Larry, I have a few questions on carbamates, namely TERBUCARB. Do you have any info on Terbucarb? I was poisoined with this carbamate and am currently trying to research this specific carbamate. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to hearing from you. There were four other pesticides involved in my exposure. as well.

Scott I am sorry to hear about your situation. I am afraid I can be of no help. I am not a toxicologist and have never heard of Terbucarb. I have also been retired for 15 years and am unfamiliar with the new chemicals. Your best avenue of assistance is likely someone in an entomology department at one of the land-grant universities that specializes in pesticide toxicology. My background is physiology and although I am familiar with modes of action for chemical groups like OPs, carbamates etc, I have no knowledge of specific chemicals and their unique toxicologies. Other people that might be helpful are extension faculty at the land grant universities of each state. Each state has a land grant university with an Extension Service of trained professionals in the different areas of agriculture, for example pest management in entomology. They should be able to help or could suggest specific toxicology researchers that are currently active and might be able to help. I apologize, but that is the best I can do. Good luck LK

Why does the acethylcholine accumulate and abound??? Please answer me

Acetylcholine accumulates because the esterase enzyme is competitively blocked by carbamate,
