If you want to make good profits run your speed up. On powder coated tumblers I run 10500 mm/min and 85% power on my 20w diode. Can do a standard 75x75mm logo in 5-6 min. I have 2 machines running at once and can easily make over $100/hr profit. Tough to make profits at 2500 mm/min doing any project for sale.

A couple of questions: Where would you recommend getting laser engravable tumblers? How would you calculate how much to charge for engraving? Great video! Thanks for sharing 👍 😊
@riversidewoodworks
6 ай бұрын
Hi there, Thanks for commenting. To start off with I would just go to the big box stores etc. I have really tried to avoid engraving YETIs/Stanley Cups because if you make a mistake with the engraving you are on the hook to replace it and they aren't cheap. How much do I charge depends on the set up of the job and the engraving time. The 40W laser helped speed up the process for me but the time is in the set up, especially if there are multiple layers. Each part of the world is different but my strategy is to charge a set rate for every 6 square inches so they know that there is a minimum charge. If they say they can get it cheaper elsewhere, I am more than happy for them to go elsewhere.

Hi there, Thank you for commenting. Just regular water based black paint. There are etching sprays which are really expensive but all you need is something to help the material absorb the light source.

That's a good question. Not as much as you would think. Because it's waaaaay easier to cut leather than 3mm ply, the laser is actually cutting for far less time so I prefer it to cutting wood which produces much more smoke.

What type of material does it engrave beside glass, leather and wood? Can it engrave electronic devices?
@riversidewoodworks
5 ай бұрын
I am not sure about electronic devices. I would be keen as I would love to engrave the back of my iPhone, but not game to try it. Creality have a 1.6W laser which comes with their 40W laser now so maybe the ultra precise laser would be good for that.

Why do you paint the glass black?
@riversidewoodworks
Ай бұрын
Hi there, when you use a diode laser the wave length passes straight through the glass and does not interact with the material at all. So you need a medium that will block the wave length causing the laser beam to be absorbed by the glass. You do not need to do this with a CO2 laser as the wave length is different. Hope this helps

I’m still trying to work out how to share prices on KZitem since everywhere is different. In Australia things are pretty expensive due to our high minimum wage ($23.23 an hour which I believe is the 3rd highest in the world). So Americans can’t believe it with I share prices and say “no one would pay that much” etc.
