I assume you mean Enthauptung Partitura from Pierrot Lunaire? I wouldn't wish that on the Nazis, and PL is not opera -- it's a song cycle.

They are clearly not ‘songs’; is the English-speaking world so utterly ignorant that it cannot deal with the word ‘aria’ (plural ‘arie’), and by insisting on the horrible ‘song’ thus publicise its utter ignorance to the whole world both of its own language, and that of everyone else.
@ClassicalPower
2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are right but the algorithm is ignorant at least as people are, thus very much. This way the video can have more visibility and as a consequence more people may get to know these masterpieces which can make their life better. I had been willing to do this compromise.

I corrected the usage (politely) above -- the poster did not mention the YT algorithm matter till further down. But before you go slagging people off, you might learn to spell the English language. Start with the word "its" and learn the difference between it and "it's." Here's a clue: "it's" is always and only a contraction of "it is." If your sentence does not read correctly including "it is," then lose the bloody apostrophe. "Its" is the possessive usage. I do hope you are not one of those people who puts apostrophes in simple plurals. I do see you got "songs" correct. As for "arie," that is correct in Italian but the common use in English is just "arias." Less pretentious.
@elaineblackhurst1509
5 ай бұрын
@@VLind-uk6mb Regarding its v it’s I am rightly rebuked, though I know perfectly well the difference (as you yourself are aware), and you probably know where I am going to place the blame, if only partly as I should have checked it myself. Thank you for pointing it out as it is both ugly and embarrassing; I have edited a correction. My point however stands; Johnny Cash and The Beatles wrote and sang songs, and the modern-day mutation of the word into some sort of generic noun to mean something it doesn’t is one of the most ridiculed misuses in the English language today. I agree also that as ‘aria’ has made its (sic and checked) way into the English language, that ‘arias’ (plural) is perfectly acceptable, rather like concerto/concertos and so many other Italian terms; the fact that aria is so commonly understood simply reinforces my issue with the absurdity of ‘song’.

Good evening William, this is a great selection though 9 songs is a hard restriction. I miss Il mio tresoro from Mozart's Don Giovanni. As you love Wagner and one has to consider that an opera song is involved in the dramatic action I recommend: Einsam in trüben Tagen, sung by Elsa in Lohengrin. After the account of Frederick von Tellramund everyone expects a wicked Elsa on stage who is thought to be responsible for the disappearance of her brother. Everyone is stunned when she appears on stage: "Mein armer Bruder" is the surprising response. She then tells how she met Lohengrin "Einsam in trüben Tagen...". There are some example on You Tube, hope you agree. Wish you all the best.
