Badly_Dubbed A Corrado is really cool car,i owned one for 17 months and i dont recomend it to new drivers as many of them have problem with rear diff. I would compare its handling to a coffin with trash bin wheels. But all it takes is like 2-3 bolt-ons and you can make the car feel like 911 and not 20 year old Corrado. Plus g60 engine has some potential,so with little tuning,like freeflow air filter,straight pipe and porting/polishing valves would easily spike engine from 120hp to 150hp and with alredy bad rear diff it was nightmare to drive,sometimes jumping and jerking on road. And unfortunately its hard to find them these days,especialy not riced out ones with fart cans. But they are one of cheapest 'sport' cars to buy and maintain. You cant say you are a car guy if you havent owned Corrado,Delta,Golf 2,Alfa 75 or Fiat Coupe.

I don't know if anyone else mentioned it yet but over here in North America, General Motors has the 3.8L supercharged V6 which in my humble opionion is one of the best motor GM ever made! With turbocharging you do *not* get any real free energy. The back pressure on the turbine side is at LEAST as high at that on the compressor side, if not higher due to losses. A significant portion of the extra power developed is consumed by the turbo compressing the incoming air. Really the big advantage is that the boost is not as dependent on engine RPMs as it is with a super charger.

My favorite thing about supercharged engines, is the fluctuation of RPM when at idle. Can't put my finger on what to call it, but it happens because the air intake has a minor vacuum as it struggles to pull air past the supercharger, and it leads to somewhat rough and unique idle sound. That's one reason I like superchargers over turbos. The sound is more obvious on old supercharged muscle cars though (cause of the carbeurator)

it doesn't re-use the exhaust fumes, it just uses them to drive a shaft (through a propeller) which is connected to another propeller (which is connected to the the engine's main air intake channel), the air going through this propeller gets compressed as a result. Hi VisioRacer, In terms of mechanical engineering anything that forcefully provides compressed air is known as supercharging. turbo chargers and compressors(what layman calls super charger) are actually sub division of supercharging. Fun Fact... Old Kelvinator fridges used to use corksrew type compressors.. similar to car superchargers. This is why they lasted so long. Now most freezers / AC units use rotary compressors.
@VisioRacer

Well... I really don't know what people is talking about "full boost" at idle when talking about blowers/superchargers, because that's not exactly what happens on very simple setups. When a blower (roots or centrifugal) is running too slow, it's unlikely to generate boost and when it's running too fast and/or too high pressure ratio it's going to lose a lot of efficiency, which is noticeable due the extremely high noise and heat generate by the blower. This basically means that you need to choose a pulley ratio that generates enough boost to a certain RPM range, but without overspeed nor overboost at redline, unless you got some way to by pass the blower and/or desengage the blower from the pulley drive (just like an A/C compressor clutch), which is expensive and adds complexity to the project. I used to have a Fiesta Mk5 with a Zetec Rocam (Duratec 8v) 1 liter with a M24 Eaton blower. The blower was reaching 18500 RPM (blower maximum recommended speed is 18000, but it it's possible to reach 20000 without catastrophic failure) when the engine was reaching 7000 RPM. The boost takes a while to build up, but at 4000 RPM the engine was much more powerful than before reaching 114hp@7000 RPM instead of the 66hp@5800 when it was naturally aspirated. The Fiesta Mk5 1.0 supercharged on dyno: kzitem.info/news/bejne/yI57tYygaYWKqII The results on the dyno: i.imgur.com/4i1ZBuA.jpg Angry 4 banger on the track day: kzitem.info/news/bejne/qa-I2oCgnJaDaI4 After looking at some Eaton charts, the M24 Eaton was probably consuming between 15 and 17hp, but only when the engine reach 7000 RPM. At lower RPM and lower boost it was exponentially lower. I - theorically - could setup a maximum rev at 5000 or 6000 for engine to get boost sooner and get a higher volumetric efficiency at lower RPM range due my original camshaft, but the size of the blower pulley was already too small and I wasn't really sure about enlarging the crankshaft pulley, because that would result a boost that would exceed the maximum recommended for a efficient operation and could reduce the lifespan of the blower, water pump, A/C compressor and alternator (that would be operating at a higher speed at daily drive instead of reach peaks of high speed only at track day). Even with these modifications, the car was really cheap to ride on ethanol (E100), reach 10km/l (10l/100km or 23,5mpg) on the city roads. In the end, it is possible to make a cool, smooth and efficient setup with a blower, but you are not going to have as much power peak (due efficiency issues and power consumption of the blower at high boost) nor have necessarily boost sooner (especially on setups with very tiny turbocharger well dimensioned to get full boost at lower RPM). Besides... blowers are very expensive. I like to see blowers as a neat complementary system to achieve higher torque and compensate lower volumetric efficiency at a certain RPM range. Recently, my brother prepared his 1.6 8v Zetec Rocam with BorgWarner K03 twin scroll (same used on the Citröen DS3 "THP")... that thing reaches spool up at 1500 RPM and reach full boost 2000... the car is reaching 200whp... Why should I bother with a blower in this case? hehehehe

Not a bad list! I think turbos get a bad rap they don't deserve because of their complexity. Generally they outperform superchargers in every way, especially with modern fuel control systems. That intro.... my heart hurts from all the dirt, sand, and probably rocks hitting the body and scratching the paint.

Driving the car like it should makes your heart hurt? The paint will get repolished and I am getting better in drifting.

VisioRacer If it was a 4x4 then I'll do it that track . But for sports car I'll on asphalt road. As for the body, I meant dents and scratches. Btw I never commented on your drifting skills :)

That White Corrado with no bumper didn't have a G60 in it. It had a BBM lysholm--Sounds like a firetruck!

Hey man, ever thought about "oddball" supercharged/turbo'd vehicles. Land rover supersport, nissan xterra, frontiers, among others

I'm missing Jaguar as a brand that has fitted so many superchargers... Also I think those eaton units are technically still roots style superchargers and not twinscrew.

Mazdas Screw charged Miller cycle V6 I see mentioned in the comments, But not the RF-CX 4 cyl Diesel with a Comprex "pressure Wave supercharger" also from Mazda.I tried a 88 626 with this engine, and was pretty impressed despite its low power rating and high mileage. (400.000km)

I love my modified R53 cooper S but you're wrong about the John Cooper Works as it's also supercharged with either 200 or 210hp
