I prefer natural light and sometimes review stuff remotely (no BS, just what can really be assessed distantly and people trust me). But all your points got the points =))) And the new daring speech manner is fun too ;) Way to go!

I was hoping for two. 1. putting the hand over the lens as a transition in a video. 2. having to prove their love for coffee. Coffee is good, but it’s way overhyped in the photography community. It was a good list though, thumbs up. 3. Bonus for me: photographer constantly preaching gear doesn’t matter and you don’t have to buy the latest and greatest, while constantly buying the latest and greatest and every other video.

Something I would say is overhyped is shooting manual only. You should defiantly learn to shoot manual to learn how your camera works. There are times like using flash when you need to be in manual. However sometimes the semi auto modes can be useful. Like shooting an outdoor event and some activities are happening in the sun and others in the shade or it's one of those days it keeps going from sunny to cloudy.

My own experience: 1. After renting the Canon R6 from a husband and wife owned business, I decided to trade in my Canon 5D Mark III as well as 7D Mark II for the Canon R6. It has the most megapixels that I am comfortable with (hence not wanting to try out the R5) while combining my love of the full frame with my wife's love of the 7D Mark II shooting 10 frames a second for her bird photography in one package. My wife also loves the full frame for macro photography. I can finally utilize the EF-S lenses on my full frame camera, which was the only feature that I really liked with the Nikon. 2. In selling the gear for the R6, I included three lenses: A 400mm L F/5.6, a 300mm L IS F/4, and a 50mm F/1.8 prime lens. My wife was upset that I threw that in the deal. However, when testing out the R6 that I rented at Busch Gardens in Tampa, I found myself more reaching for the 100-400mm L as well as my 300-600mm Tamron lens more for those long distance animal shots. I honestly could not tell a difference in photo quality. The 50mm I never really used since getting a 40mm F/2.8 EF-S STM lens and a 85mm F/1.8 EF lens. 3. I am reminded of "The Angry Photographer" that did a lot of ranting about things, but never had an official portfolio. His true photography skills/lack thereof came to a head when Jason Lanier, that Ken had ranted against over and over, had a video of both of them taking photos at the Kentucky Horse Farm four years ago. 4. I find the video preview thumbnail a helpful tool in getting past that b roll footage. It isn't just limited to photographers either. I own a Jeep Wrangler, and have wanted to find out how to fix something or put something on the Jeep. One channel in particular will have a thirty minute video with the first ten minutes of b roll footage, ten minutes of them doing a road trip and talking in the Jeep without pertaining to the subject at hand, and then the last ten minutes of how to fix the Jeep or install a part. 6. I cut my teeth with a DSLR, and wound up buying an SLR for fun after I learned about photography. My wife was made upset at this local meetup photography group at the county fair years ago. A man told her that only a true photographer uses all manual lens, manual settings, etc. I told her that if that was the case, then the camera manufacturers would not put in all the gizmos they did. Why limit a new photographer to only using a quarter of the camera settings if the tools are there? 7. Again, The Angry Photographer I know has been guilty of fanboyism, which led up to the Jason Lanier spat four years ago. 8. Not really just natural lighting per see, but touching on the subject of flash and knowing one's camera. I allegedly left such an impression on a former friend making her son's photos look so easy, that she decided to go out and buy a DSLR that she never took out of full auto mode. She revealed this to me when the pop up flash on her Nikon broke. She wanted to get it repaired. I told her the best thing to do was to just buy a cheap external dummy flash and use that. She did not believe that my 5D Mark III did not have a flash built in. Against my recommendation, she sent the camera to Nikon to have them fix the pop up flash and paid the much higher repair bill. She has not talked to me since.

Love your comments about bokeh... People seem to be obsessed about it. I think it's because of mobile phones and therre IA and protraits modes..... Vlogging camera's... Drive me crazy.... I am a photography guy and when I see yet again a "vlogging" camera.. one thing I can't stand on youtube is the "This is the best camera" for every new bloody released. It does give me inspiration to make a "buy or not" video that aside. Another hype is all the saturated colours and deep orange that seem to be latest thing. Editing is a skill and learning curve, but I still prefer Fuji film simulation and inbody processing ')

Thanks, Eric. One that probably gets me sick nowadays is "the best" whatever. Like if the best lens or the best camera or the best settings or the best adjustments would be uniform and universal, and one becomes a photographer overnight by using them. My motto has been: the best (this) is the one I can afford; once I dominate it, I will work my way up.

All these are too true. I think any camera gear you get after a while becomes boring and you look to spice things up again with a new lens haha. I know it happens to me a lot. The film one especially. I know people shooting film just because it gets more likes on social. All these things on your list are making me fall out of love for photography. Of course, the pandemic didn't help any either. Great video Eric.

#1: yeah you’re right totally up to personal preference! #2: yeah I used to shoot only wide open until one of my instructors roasted me in college 🥲 #3: honestly I barely watch any gear reviews anymore because they’re not that interesting and now always trust worthy. #4: hey now I just bought my drone so I’ll agree to disagree 😂 #5: most of the “hack” videos are kinda redundant at this point. #6: yes, absolutely! #7: yes, absolutely. I’ve noticed this a lot especially with the “mirror less vs DSLR” debate. #8: yes absolutely! #9: yeah I haven’t purposely watched a vlog in idk how long so I guess that speaks for its self 🤷🏼♀️

to comment on the vloggers thing: i think sony is mostly targeting the 13-21 year old children of the fairly wealthy with these products. Sure, no one really cares much for vlogging in a professional capacity, but a LOT of younger people would love a vlogging camera for their own personal shit. There are obviously better cameras for kids, but people who are rich enough won't know and will just buy whatever the sony influencers are hyping at the moment.

Thanks for the video. It's true. I call it 'Herds of Individuality.' Maybe it is time to use self-adhesive buttons that stick on cameras and then we make up functions that no-one can detect in the final image anyway. Unfortunately, there would then be debates about which self-adhesive stick-on buttons were the best self-adhesive stick-on buttons. I am not a good enough photographer to pass on any advice about the craft. I prefer older and somewhat worn out cameras because then I feel I can take my time and relax with them, I prefer the dusty old world.
