The single most important coop design is to have it elevated off the ground. The 2nd most important feature is is to make it small.

Great video. In the process of building my first coop to house around 10 barred rocks. I often hear coyotes at night, see foxes and hawks. And have spotted bobcats on our property on a few different occasions. I have planned on keeping them contained in a large run with lots of stuff to help their curiosity and feel like they can roam some. A lot of the content i see everyone free ranges. Nice to see you have had a good experience with them contained.

Thank you! Yes, when you have a lot of predators it’s nice to keep them in the run so you don’t have to worry about them. As long as they have space it’s no fine to keep them in the chicken run. We’ve had a lot of success keeping ours contained.

I'm just getting started too - but I agree. Opinions and recommendations run a wide range, all over the place - just keep it simple. (I'm enjoying upcycling things to make waterers and feeders.)

You should put a detailed video of the automatic watering system. That is something I would like for my chickens.

May I ask where you purchased your large feeder?? I need one that is sturdy and will hold a lot of food so we can leave for a couple of days. I don’t need one that large but I love the style of yours. Thanks!😊

Mine is actually a turkey feeder that was my great grandpa’s so I’m not exactly sure where it came from originally because it has been in the family forever. They do however make free feeding chicken feeders that’s are sold at a variety of different places such as Amazon, tractor supply, and other stores that would be similar to the one I have. You could try that or you could always get multiple big feeders so that there’s plenty of feed for while you are gone.

I’m just getting started. Love your videos. I’m building a coop with an attached run. Question: Do I need to install a feeder and waterer in the coop AND in the run?

It's good to keep the feed and water inside the coop so the chickens have access to it at all times you don't want the food to get wet so we can get moldy and cause problems you can keep one waterer out in the chicken yard and one water in the chicken coop is ideal I raised chickens for over 25 years and it seems to work out pretty good good luck with your chickens there are a lot of fun God bless you and have a great day

Your story is so sweet! I couldn't help to notice you used 2x4 horse fence for your coop. I've been debating on using that for the upper portion of my coop. Have you had any predator issues? do you have other protection that maybe I didn't see in this video? I've had chickens for years and I'm upgrading my coop and just can't afford hardware cloth for this huge chicken mansion I'm building.

I'm wondering why my chickens cant lay?!
@AudreysLittleFarm
Жыл бұрын
There can be a lot of different reasons why your hens aren’t laying, it could be because of their age or the high heat. Are your chickens young or old? With some more information i might be able to better help you figure out why they are not laying.

Sadly I put DE in my dust bath and 2 of my young hens died of respiratory problems. :(

Hi Brenda, I'm so sorry to hear that! Did a vet verify that was the cause of their death? I've had DE in my dust bath consistently for the past 5 years and have never had any issues.
