On the first three days of Navratri, Maa Durga (who represents power) is worshipped, and on the next set of three days, Maa Lakshmi (who symbolises wealth) is worshipped. The last three days are for worshipping Maa Saraswati (who epitomises arts, music and knowledge).
On the 8th day of Navratri we pay obeisance to Maa Saraswati with the rendition of Raga Saraswati. The raga has been imported into Hindustani Classical music from Carnatic music. In this raga the Pancham-Rishabh sangati is important. Teevra Madhyam is also a vital note in this raga. With the application of Gandhar Swar in Saraswati we get Raga Vachaspati.
Chandrashekharji has composed a very melodious composition set to Rupak Taal. He renders the raga with detailed layakari and aesthetically structured taans and follows it with a teentaal composition based on the famous Marathi song ‘Vikal man aaj zhurat asahay’.
Accompanying Chandrashekharji are Dr. Sujata Bhat, Vijay Jaganathan, Rupali Nimabalkar, Sujata Ratnaparkhi, Varun Dixit, Sonali Patil, Tripti Seth and Sarita Kanchan. We have Laxman Pawar and Harshal Wadavilkar on the tabla. Tanushree Sawant is on the Tanpura. Shri Keshav Paranjpe is the anchor for the program.
