The collar on a button down shirt also stops the backpack straps from pinching or rubbing against the skin on your neck and shoulders, as the soldiers who developed the style probably appreciated. Good tips! Solid video! Thanks

Awesome tips! Especially pants and ferro rod. I always bring two stove-lighting sources. Lately I’ve been carrying one of those arc plasma lighters. I always bring a ferro rod as secondary though. Great to see your channel getting more attention! Well deserved.

All good stuff. I do most of this anyway. I got myself one of those folding ground mats. I plan to use it like your foam pad to sit on.

Yeah I bought the expensive z seat, in hindsight, just a 50cmx100cm sheet of 3mm closed cell foam is a 1/3 of the price.

1. Long-sleeved shirt is not uncommon for backpacking. 2. Don’t contaminate perfectly good water with your dirty shirt. Heaven help the guy downstream. 3. Same with your feet. Wash them, yes, but not in the creek. Wash away from waterways. 4. Obviously your clothing should match with your surroundings. Change into something else to sleep. 5. Aquamira and Sawyer take care of different contaminants. Simply remembering to protect your filter from freezing shouldn’t be that difficult.

I've heard those aquamira tabs don't treat beaver fever. Is that true? I believe the technical name is giardia.
@ALinsdau

I don't use the tabs, I use the 2 part liquid that creates chlorine dioxide which is used by municipal water supplies.

Boy - you have some critical commenters! I agree with all your suggestions including washing your shirt and underpants at a mid-day or (more usually) evening stop by water. it wouldn't be actually in the stream, but in one of those folding PVC cloth bowls that militaries use, which doubles as my wash kit container. I also use my small piece of closed-cell foam if I'm in a hammock, when your knees can get cold when sleeping on your side. I have it inside the sleeping bag. For more "uncommon advice" Google "What Do I No", and choose the "Practical" tab.

The way you showed how youd used the pad to keep you warmer at night shows it the wrong way - you want the reflective side facing your body.

I've tested foam vs silver at -20ºF/-29ºC. I found no difference in either side facing upward.

@@ALinsdau many other YTers have tested this, using instruments. Reflective material reflects not only visible light (obviously, it does this much more than the nonreflective side) but invisible electromagnetic radiation, and that’s why it’s warmer.
