What a sound. Utterly fantastic! Getting a very Jeff Beck kinda vibe from the playing.

I was curious about the amp, having never heard of it. Playing straight through it, it indeed sounded very crisp and clean. But when you kicked in the stereo chorus, it suddenly went wall to wall! The output on this end, with the SM-57s, is spectacular! But then... when you kicked in the digital delay, it literally filled the room, in three dimensions, and with absolute clarity. And when you went on and seriously jammed with it, all I can say is that I'm amazed! If I could latch onto one of these for a few hundred bucks on eBay, I'd jump on it. As a product of the 60s, I even still have a box in the garage with a few new 12AX7/ECC83's in it. Granted, all I have to work with is my Les Paul, but then... it's a Les Paul. It speaks for itself. What I *really* have to do is figure out how to play like you. LOL

Hello Mike, while I have never been a big fan of the H&K tube amps, this one really surprised me. Very Very nice!! What really caught my eye however, is your guitar! That is absolutely beautiful. Nice pickups arrangement, and great shape and colors! Champagne metallic and chrome with pearl white scratch plate. Great combination!! Tell your friend great job on this build, and great job on your playing, as always! Bob in Germany

Mike as always! Good music. I have in my own a Rolands JC 120 and it sounds similar. But this one is maybe a bitt lighter, my back starts hurting so often I use a smaller amp. But the sound, my JC 120 and this one are the two reason to get a tranistor amp.! Greatings from the South of Sweden. Nice playing as always, Mike!

I do own an attax 200, bought It new in 1997 and it was a hell of a lot more expensive than a Marshall combo but although not being a tube amp it blew me away and I just had to have it.

I have a "blue carpet" Attax 100 combo I bought new for ~$600 US in 93'. It's lasted over 25 years with minimal care. However, the pots are very scratchy, and the master volume now cuts out periodically-how did you clean the pots? Was it as easy as using a Doxit-like spray product or something else?

For a fraction of the price of a Jazz Chorus?? What are you smoking? Are you comparing used prices versus new? Back in the day, the Attax was way more expensive than a Jazz Chorus (maybe because it was also a lot heavier). I know this because I was tricked into buying one, didn't like the stiff drive sounds at all, traded it in after half a year or so for a brand new Jazz Chorus - in the same music shop - and even got a few hundred bucks back. That said, these types of poppy, chorus drenched clean sounds can be achieved with pretty much any modern analog or digital solid state amp that doesn't attenuate the highs too much. Maybe you have to add an external chorus (like you did), but chances are you don't have to.

Thanks for stopping by. :) Of course I was talking about used vintage (!) prices. At least in Germany, Hughes&Kettner is a german company, you can buy a vintage Attax 200 for 250 to 300 bucks (Euros), while a vintage Roland Jazz Chorus 120 typically doesn't sell for less than 900 - 1200 bucks over here when you find one for sale. Advantage of the Attx 200: it comes with way more power (2x100W) and a tube preamp and exactly the tube in the preamp stage is the culprit, when you are reporting "stiff drive sounds". I experimented a little bit and found a vintage Siemens ECC83 tube (not too cheap outside of Germany of course), which totally changed the amp to the better, clean and crunch. A more modern and available Sovtek 12AX7 WB also does the trick. And yes, I used a external delay with phase inversion to widen the stereo base, but used the wonderful built in Attax chorus at the same time. :)
