I am a retired milk tank driver and I backed into many spots as tight as this w/o one pull up, but then again this was done at the least, every other day. And yes...I also picked up milk w/a 210" WB Long nose Pete with a bunk. The first couple of weeks were a disaster, but after a little advice from a friend of mine and some practice, I had it down to a science...even to backing into a tank room blind side...first shot. I give all the glory to God for this because w/o His help, there was no way I could have accomplished all the above mentioned feats on my own. God Bless, Jeff :)

At my first job driving trucks, I had to learn to do this at least 25 to 30 times a day as it required me to remove the trailer and park it when it was full. A year later, I was able to back up 53ft-ers like a hot knife thru butter anywhere I went. **Safely.**

Ive watched videos to learn this since I want to be a truck driver and from what i understand backing a tractor trailer can be hard most of the time. Some people it takes a few minutes to succeed. If I go into truck driving Im only backing in at loading docks as well as trailer drop offs and at truck stops with no pull throughs.

When I was 18 the US Navy threw me the keys to a Chrysler 318 powered tow tractor, spent a couple days certifying me then I spent the next 4 months towing and parking F-4's, F-14's, A-3's, E-3's etc at NAS Miramar. Never has so much money been so close to catastrophe. The nose gear pivots and so does the pintle hook of the tow tractor so you've got two angles to jack knife it with. While we park them on the ship a LOT closer than at shore they use a spotting dolly on the ship so that's a lot easier. It picks up the nose gear.

What was REALLY awesome was this driver than would bring two twenty seven footers in, back the rear trailer into the dock, uncouple, then back the remaining trailer in the dock next to it. This was AFTER backing it in from a 90 degree angle from the street. I'm hoping to get on with Central Refrigeration in the next month or two. I just want to be a safe, professional operator.

Instinct, experience, logic. The first two are self explanatory, the third, logic, is that he knows how much space he has so he can gauge how much space is on the side he can see to know how much is available on the opposite side. That said, so much of the speed is from the first two.
@Trayceg

its so easy to say how it is so easy and you do harder docks...and the fact that your name here is Super Trucker says to me that you think a lot of yourself why don't you stop hating and just admit he did an outstanding job, why do people want to talk badly about others ? Truck drivers should be there for each other encourage your fellow driver a pat on the back when deserved ..when you put yourself on a pedestal it gets lonely up there all by yourself

He's driving a day cab chances are he's probably in and out of here at least daily. You learn to judge how much clearance there is on the right side based on what you see on the left side. I used to deliver ice cream like that and you can't keep your doors open very long otherwise the inside temp will rise which could cause the receiver to refuse your load or part of it. I was OTR so i didn't do it all the time, but Ice Cream was usually my 1st load after my days off.

I do it everyday. sometimes on my blind side on a one way street with dumb ass 4 wheelers that can't wait so they decided to try and squeeze by you as your trying to back in.
