I don't think the Trace RC was a $650 fork ... I also bought one for $270 and have had it on my e bike since Christmas ... It's 140mm travel NOT 130 as advertised ... At first it was a bit sticky right off the top and now with around 1400 miles on it the bushings are worn ... Decent value for the price, I really should adjust the travel down to 120 mm and see how that works.
@theshedMTB
Жыл бұрын
Mine is 130, thats what it measures. Like i said, $650 was msrp, no one ever pays that. My Auron is $692 msrp and i paid $200 for it! What i said about it was how i feel about it- its not stiction, it just doesnt respond well to low speed stuff, even at $270 i think there are better options, but its certainly not terrible!

Bottom line is though, if you like the fork that's what matters! I was basically just giving my opinion and how I felt about it but I'm certainly no authority onforks! I think the biggest problem for me was I had really high expectations after seeing Wolfticks video.

5:08 Even better use spherical bearings. This lets the shock tilt/rock side to side, this reduces the stiction under load, when the frame flexes, and all frames flex, they should have some flex anyway. But i don't know if there is one in this size. I've not tried needle bearings, but seen the comparisons, the difference will be huge, super smooth movement, vs horrible stiction on bushings.
@theshedMTB

Spherical bearings would be the ultimate for the reasons you mentioned, but ive never seen them on mtb shocks, maybe on high end stuff?

@@theshedMTB I have it, came stock Nicolai/Geometron G1. So far it's only bike on the market with it. I love it. Ext Storia Lok v3 coil shock, is superb superb, super plush, yet supportive, and has a climb switch too, I rarely use it, but it stays in place but easy to switch mode. But compression setting requires a socket, but I set and forget. It has rebound damping, high and low speed compression. I have the Era fork, it has high, low speed compression and rebound. Smooth, and nice dials. The big dial is better to turn Fox. The fork has two adjustable chambers. I love it, no extra work or tools required, no volume spacers, I just adjust and test on the trail. Who wants to have a socket wrench, bunch of spacers, and deflate the fork many times until they find the sweet spot. It makes no sense to me, but FOX, Rockshox insist on it.

3:27 I see EXA Form only make cheap short travel shox. ''maybe once a week it loses all the air'' that sounds like the seals are blown or faulty, or the valve core is loose. I won't be surprised if these are junk, and faulty from factory or seals just wore out. but that will happen on any fork, once seals are worn, dust wiper is worn, the shock gets dirt in and grinds the insides so it ruins the air can, stanchion.
@theshedMTB

Its just a cheap shock. I could have fixed it with seals, but not worth it. It was loosing air before i ever rode it!

16:03 You should test the rebound on a curb, adjust one click at the time, ride into the curb, adjust one click, repeat, and then once it starts to feel good or perfect, try one more click, and test, if that's too much turn it back a click, and that's the rebound set. But the air, you have to tweak on the trail. ride same trail section on repeat.

15:32 Some video quality info: Keep in mind riding videos in 1080p will be ruined, due to the compression type KZitem use on 1080p video so the video might have looked great on your pc, but looks horrible on KZitem. If you pc can handle it you can upscale it to 2.7K, I had to on my old pc, when I recorded 1080p with GOpro 4 session, and later I shot 2.7K on Hero 7, but rendering that on a 980 Strix was pushing it, it did it, but barely, at slowest rendering speed. but now I have a beast, RTX 3090 TUF. So does 4k, 60p at fastest rendering speed. Keep in mind high frame rate will have more frames, thus more detail when moving, and high bit rate will have more detail in general.

Thanks for the insight, but i litrally have no idea what your talking about! I'm a old school mechanic with a gopro 3 doing this for fun!
@mtbboy1993

@@theshedMTB I mentioned video resolution, 1080p gets ruined. Higher the resolution better graphics card is needed to render. For 4k, a super pricy graphics card is needed. So 2.7k is an good compromise, but if you rp can't do big resolutions or you don't have a camera that does big resolutions then just upscale to 2.7k that's the resolution between that is common. But old pc won't do so well with it. But feasible. And quality won't suffer. So will look as the 1080p did. P is for pixels.
@mtbboy1993
Жыл бұрын
@@theshedMTB hero 3 does max 1080p, of course bigger resolution is better. But can still get usable footage on 1080p, but KZitem introduced a different compression which ruined all 1080o videos, more movement there is worse the compression is, that's why footage I the shop and in front of the shed look nice, but riding footage looks like 360p. It gets massively compressed with massive pixelation, it makes pixels removes detail. But 2.7k is a larger resolution, where they don't do this to. I record in 4k,buy requires to buy a codec from Microsoft if on windows 11, and windows 8 won't accept it, and windows 11 has it included, so just works. 👌 Hope this helps. Just trying to give advice and earn about this issue.

Bah, link me any MTB video on youtube, if I pause it it will look like 720 no matter what you filmed it or uploaded it in. When you're still the 4k looks crisp, but as soon as you move and digital stabilisation kicks in the video looks awful
@mtbboy1993
Жыл бұрын
@@janeblogs324 digital stabilisation? I think you mean compression. No idea what digital stabilisation has to do with what I said. As I stated in my comment videos uploaded in 1080p will get compresses horribly where there is movement, more movement worse it gets. KZitem does not add stabilisation.

10:04 I disagree with you, this fork is bad, it has plastic cap with preload, the plastic cap can fail. if it does the coil will shoot out, I don't know if this fork has secured the coil at the bottom, some forks do some don't, but that won't matter when the coil snaps which can happen on any coil fork with, they have a fatigue life. So a strong metal cap is a must. But add a metal cap and a coil that suits the rider, and it's likely a ok fork. I am not against coil forks, yes they are heavier, but less seals, and so with the right spring, and properly setup, it will provide supple feel.
@theshedMTB
Жыл бұрын
I see your point, but ive had a couple of these forks on different bikes with lots of use and never had that plastc cap fail. I guess it just surprised me the fork was not terrible to ride with but certainly not up to using downhill consistently, like you said, something would eventually fail.
