Sure thing! It does quite often. It's good when you find the right people to work for. I work mostly for small companies who just need an extra hand. Often times boss man is even a ground guy for the day. I'm just super thankful to work for folks who allow me to take the time to film while I'm working.

Great video! Do you have any advice on contract climbing and how to keep a steady job flow? Kentucky tree guy here.
@zaccheus
Жыл бұрын
Ah, I don't. There definitely isn't as much money in contract climbing as there is in selling your own work. You gotta be a super good climber to make appropriate contract climber wages and support a nice truck, full rigging and imbing kit, insurance, workers comp insurance, taxes and all that. I actually contract climb and also runa small excavating business to keep things mixed up. It might be a good idea to do a little advertising and do small one man jobs directly for the customer in addition to contract climbing. I've had good success with yard signs before.
@KnotsogreatDane
Жыл бұрын
@@zaccheus Word! I would love to own a mini excavator someday. I wouldn’t know where to start as far as what model goes though. I actually have some yard signs I’m just kind of undecided on where to put them exactly. What seems to have worked best for you?
@zaccheus
Жыл бұрын
@@KnotsogreatDaneFor tree work I always put them in customers yards after doing work at the property and asking if I could leave a sign. For excavating, I've left them at real intersections in the country side where I think people might need my services. I do that because excavating project tend to be bigger and so I have fewer customers and therefore fewer places to leave signs. Starting a google business profile is also free wnad a great way to get reviews and put yourself in a place to come uo in search results

Would love an elaboration on the cut made at 10:50. Kind of looks like a snap cut of kinds?
@zaccheus
Жыл бұрын
Ahhh, it was a mistake cut it what it was 😅 The goal was to under cut the limb 2/3 of the way through and the make a bypass cut from the top down on the side closer to the tree trunk. The idea then would be that the cut side would stay attached so I could get away from it and then the rigging rope tied to the tip could be lowered which would allow the piece to break free from the tree and swing into the rigging system. I didn't get the cuts lined up well and so the piece broke off early. I made the cuts at that goofy angle so that the butt would slide off of the stub once it broke free.

After you drop a limb how do you get your lines back? How long does that take? Sorry man gotta learn.
@zaccheus
Жыл бұрын
Don't be sorry, I love answering questions 😊 Getting theins back was pretty quick and easy. I moved the half inch block around with me quote a bit and so I just had them hook the two lines together and everything up to me with the half inch line. It was pretty quick but definitely slower than rigging with just one rope.

@Nature’s Barber Aw man, that's super unfortunate. I know people get pretty possessive about work around here too. It's gets kinda cut throat sometimes 😕 a good mentor is hard to find. Not too business owners want to invest the time in help a newer guy get started because the turn over rate is so high.

@zaccheus

Just practice. I still get scared up there when it's a not a real rigid tree or there is a compromised part of the tree below me. Some alot of confidence comes out of seeing repeated success, but with too much confidence comes complacency. It's a balance of gut and knowledge. It's good to push yourself, but never too far at any one time.

I keep hearing mixed opinions on the matter since it's a ball bearing block. There isn't anything I've seen in the device literature that explicitly says to not negative rig 🤷♂️

We actually removed that big another day. It's not good practice to leave wounds that big on trees, but I was not a part of the decision making process for that.
