as someone a part of gen z, i can say that 90s revitalization is DEFINITELY huge with us (as well as the 2000s since we actually lived through that). lots of younger grunge fans, and i’m one of them! i’d theorize that the sardonic and gloomy attitudes towards society that 90s alternative had is why it’s so appealing to so many. personally i just find comfort in how grounded that whole scene was, unlike a lot of the more polished things you find today. there has definitely been a promising shift to 90s nostalgia in the last few years, and i’m hoping we get some great shows that get it right as a result.

Thanks so much for sharing that, it’s super interesting. And It’s great to hear! Being part Pacific Northwesterner myself, it’s almost like that gloomy attitude was exported everywhere during the 90s. Obviously people have different experiences, but my experience was in line with what you’re describing. I think particularly after what happened in the 80s, the 90s grunge attitude felt like a culmination of: “OK that’s it. We’ve had it. Ha ha. All of this is bullshit, you know it’s bullshit and we’re not even gonna pretend.” Also, and I don’t remember if I talked about this in the video, but 90s artists were true to their word about being depressed and apathetic about many things. I’m not advocating what they did, or their approach, but lots of 90s people ended their own lives out of frustration or addiction. Again, i’m not glorifying it. It’s not the answer, in my view. I’m only bringing it up because I think it’s important to point out that there was an authenticity to what they were saying. They weren’t just singing about dying. They meant it. And a quick search will back that up. But yeah, in regard to shows, I would love to see more movies and shows come out that get it right.

I thought it was a pretty good show. Kind of reminded me a bit of Curb Your Enthusiasm because both Larry David and Sam Loudermilk always complain and crap on everything. I never knew it was based on the 90's though since everyone had phones, Samalso went into an Uber though so idk. By season 3 Claire kind of took a backseat with not appearing as much. Also, why was the Sam and Claire's mum sleeping together ever addressed?

I can definitely see the parallels between Loudermilk and Larry David. That’s a great observation. I’m not sure why that particular thing was never addressed. Also, I think maybe rooted in the 90s is more accurate. I guess I just mean that it’s a bit of an nostalgia piece at times. Essentially, I think this shows probably just about a guy trying to get his life together. But there are layers, perhaps. Anyway, glad you watched. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I wonder if they’re gonna make more?
