I looked up the word "Brute" in the dictionary today but all it showed was a photo of a Phantom. I was at Wildenrath at that time - instructing on the Harrier GR3 sim - and they were great times, even with the USSR and IRA making life difficult!

The Phantom was made to prove the theory that a brick can fly with big enough engines.

Proof positive. If you put enough power on it a brick will fly.

I was there on 19...Same year...85/86...Yes our Has`s were opposite each other.Remember all the videos and good food from the officers mess, and all those safety pins to re instate on the weaponry etc after every aircraft return, before engine shut down !!! ..Or the fact we are going to have a practice scramble any time within the next 5 hours.....Not knowing was better !!!! Happy days..

@@gavinking5605 used to like it when the RAF Police came by in the evenings with their dog,,,I seem to remember there was one dog that was never brought into our accommodation on battleflight but just tied up outside, while the Handler came in for a cuppa....If you had to go out to check something on the aircraft, and had forgotten about the dog being outside..it was close to hear attack time, when the barking started !!!..Especially in the dark..lol

@@adrianandkatrinadove203 Dog Handlers used to come into the 19Sqn Stores HES for a brew. Most of the dogs were okay, but one used to be tied up down the racking at the bottom of the HES. One night forgot it was there, went to pick a piece of kit out of the racking, first I clocked it was the land shark snapping away about 6 inches from my face. Cacked myself. (Wildenrath 1986-1990)

Wildenrath was my last station of my time in Germany. My wife and I were quartered in Erkelenz about 8 miles as the crow flies from the airfield and being woken at 0700 on a Sunday morning by the noise of the QRA pair launching was a regular occurrence. Has to be said in all honesty though, they were fun times.

I did Battleflight myself a few times on 19 Sqn,our aircraft stationed just over the way from 92 `s,on our own site....So easy to trip up when running out....Think there`s a film on u tube of a pilot doing a similar thing,or actually tripping..on a much more up todate...QRA scramble in the uk

I take it from that remark you are American. If so Japan was the country that brought you WWII. Had the not attacked Pearl Harbour America would have stayed out of the war. The world would be a very different place today if that had been the case.

I suggest you read up on WWII history. Something to do with Nazis invading Czechoslovakia and Poland, France, Belgium, etc I could go on.
