Dude.. You cracked me up on the "there's the stupid snap ring" comment.. LOL I feel your pain, man. I modified a standard set of 90" snap ring pliers by bending the handles to get the right angle to get that snap ring out. Oh, and I've GOT to make me one of those Zerk Fitting bleeders. I was thinking about making something on the lathe... It never occurred to me to drill out a Zerk fitting...... Great idea.

On the stock water neck the bleeder bolt has a hole under the hex head . start the engine top off the expansion tank crack the bolt 1 or 2 threads when a solid stream of coolant comes out tighten it up. This is too much messin around .

Hi Karl, great video. I’ll definitely be using the bleed trick when I do mine! Question for you, sounds like the car is making a lot of belt noise. Mine makes the same noise, almost sounds like a supercharger. Is this normal for 944s? I have diagnosed mine as an over-tensioned timing belt but now you’ve got me wondering…

If the belt wines , it’s to tight. Tighten it so that you can barely turn the water pump pulley by hand with the engine cold, seems loose but when the engine warms up the belt will actually get tighter. The engine block is aluminum and “ grows” a little when hot so if the belt is tightened to what seems just right when cold it will be to tight when the engine is hot and it will be noisy which will shorten its life and is also hard on any bearings involved.

Hello, I was wondering how long it took before the bubbles stopped coming out of the tube? Is it meant that there keep coming fluid out of the tube when your engine is running? After 10-15 minutes there isn't coming anything out of it anymore...Thanks for the advice!!

Wish you had shown how the thermostat clip ring went back in.... - rather than just 16 hours later!

And why did you not put the rubber sleeve washer on the thermostat with the new one?

Karl, I know a lot of people on the forums say to drill a small hole (1/8") in the top flange of the thermostat to allow any trapped air behind the thermostat to escape. Did you do this? What were your thoughts?

I've actually never heard of that. That is interesting. I'll probably keep doing it the way I do currently, but I'd like to see it in person some time.

Why do you set the heat on high before bleeding the coolant? Thanks

Opens heater core and allows cooling system fully circulate.

It took me about 10-20 minutes to do the bleed this time around.
