There was a burglar going around with a pair of bolt cutters breaking into storage units. My friend's unit is 3 doors down (like the group! LOL) and he had a Brinks padlock which they cut and got in. My unit has this American Lock. There was evidence that they tried cutting it but I guess it was too thick. I credit this lock with protecting my stuff. I have room for 2 locks on the hasp/door and bought the same lock only with armor so you cant cut it.

We used American locks when I was in the military. Hardened shackles, etc. We had a set of 30" long bolt cutters and we cut locks pretty regularly ,even the ones with the hardened shackles. They weren't easy, and if you had a short set of cutters it wasn't happening.. but they're not that bad to cut off.

Great lock, round "shoulders", good size shackle, and hardened body. Internals, pretty well all you can ask for from a pin tumbler lock. Would deter most would be attackers I would think. Although you made the picking look easy, in the real world, it's not. Well made padlock, especially for the money. Excellent description - and picking of course! Regards, Brian.

+Brian Hignett Thanks. I had given some thought to the contradiction of saying that a lock was a good security value, then picking it in less than a minute. But you're absolutely right that these locks are not so easily picked in the real world for a number of reasons. Chief among them is the fact that most people looking to break into your garden shed have not spent a solid month picking on a bucket of 50 American 1100 padlocks (same core), like I did when I was first learning security pins. I know these locks very, very well.

This is a very good lock and very hard to cut with a bolt cutter. It took a 250 lb man with all his weight placed on the bolt cutter arms to cut it. I have 3 of them, I bought them used at a garage sale for $1 each. I would recommend highly recommend this lock.

Nice video, I like that you can completely take apart the 700 for cleaning/repair. I have one from 1982 that was so dirty it wouldn't lock ($4 on craiglist). The shackle on mine is held by a pin, but I was able to remove all the rust and it works great. Also, on mine it's all regular pins and no wafer.

There you go. Their mother company Master sells the 630 (same body type) with a shit core at that same price, and puts their best core that fits in here in their 410 loto locks. Rather than putting their loto core in the 630 body and sell it at a fair price, they allow it to co-exist with this brilliant and affordable product from their own daughter company. It baffles the mind, and people still buy it.

So I have one of these locks on my desk here, found it a few years ago, never tried to pick it until now. When I apply any tension, it doesn't feel like _anything_ wants to move. I can feel at least some of the pins moving without tension. Should I spray some lubricant in the lock? The body is a bit corroded, so it wouldn't surprise me if it had some corrosion internally...
