"Security through obscurity will no longer protect disk detainer locks anymore." disk detainer picks design has been known for decades and frankly isn't hard should one have machinist tools handy. It just isn't very common and the nefarious people needing one, probably whip up one in their garage or conviniently available machine shop instead of looking at buying one. Since unless one is lock smith or hobbyist, buying a disk detainer pick kinda shouts I'm about to break and enter. Mostly what Sparrow allows is hobbyists having convenient access to a disk pick.Serious criminals with the interest and know how have had access for decades. Then again locks are for honest people unless attached to a vault. Some criminal sees a disk detainer on home door? They break the window on the wall next to it.

Not really. It is essentially Abloy Classic core, the first disk detainer design, just with 9 disks and well the keywell design is little different. How to pick it has been known for decades. Though still pretty good for a century old lock design. Still takes a specialized tool, some know how and experience and minute of time. It will frustrate most small time criminals who don't know anything about locks and what they know is the movie trope of stick couple hair pins in and lift the pins. If it is someone who knows what a disk detainer is in first place, well they are going to defeat it should they have access to or can make a disk detainer pick. Which isn't rocket science, but is beyond the efforts of most small time criminals.

CPT (cost per thousand). Adding features most people are too ignorant to consider, at additional cost, no matter how nominal, will do one of two things: drive up the price a half-dollar per lock, or eat a half-dollar of pure profit out of the company coffers. Neither of those scenarios are desirable for a company pricing their goods on the edge of profitability in the first place in order to remain competitive, and given the target consumer group buying this, well.. ignorance is bliss.

Another great video. thank you. Any word on when Sparrows might make the disc detainer pick you and Bill developed available? I'm sure there's many other's like me out here who are chomping at the bit to get hold of one.

Lock manufacturer: this lock is nearly impossible to pick. LPL: hold my beer

So basically, any conceivable lock design that could be produced inherently means that a lock pick can be designed for it. I don't consider that a design or security flaw. However, those locks where LPL is using a lego or other household item to bypass the security features is completely different.

LPL: "And then I'm going to get the pick that Bosnian Bill and I made..." Me: He said the thing! This lock is about to be decimated! You'd think that lock makers would have clued in the second that pick first made a KZitem appearance that the arms race just moved into the next level.

This guy is making his own tools. Meanwhile I have a couple Master locks I STILL haven't been able to pick open. Although I have had success with raking them open. So I'm getting there, dammit!

War-Lok was going to advertise it as "Impossible" to pick, but once they watched a few LPL videos, they added "Nearly."

I was curious how much this lock costs so I looked it up. Found it for $40 which didn't seem too bad IMO. What I found funny was it states on the web page that warlok locks are pick resistant.

Nice lock, I can't see false gates costing more, why are they not used? BTW, slightly off topic, I did an experiment. Turns out on the hardened shackle I heated to red hot and then let cool, it softened nuff to easily file deep groove...

- Lock company makes a lock that they say is impenetrable. - LPL gets a hold of it. - lock company: o_o looks like we need a new name for it.

There may be a handful of people out there with skewed values "omg it's a thief tutorial!" or children who stumbled into the video and thought it was boring. But you will always, always see a nonzero amount of dislikes on videos with enough views for the margin of error to be a factor. Literally people accidentally clicking the dislike button before leaving the page.

I can see 3 reasons why so many disc detainer locks don't have false gates. Firstly, adding false gates might push up the price, secondly they may be worried about patent lawsuits from the likes of Assa Abloy (even if the lawsuits are junk it will still cost a chunk of change to fight them, better to avoid the risk ii the first place) and thirdly in some cases they might be worried about making heir cheap locks too good and hurting sales of their more expensive locks.
